This study was conducted to investigate the prime prevention strategies in slowing ageing process amongst Njala University, Njala Campus Athletes in Njala, Southern Sierra Leone. The significance of the study is to investigate the athlete's knowledge in preventing sports injuries like: Achilles Tendonitis (AT), Runner's Knee (RK)/Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) and Shin Splints (SS), as prime prevention strategies in slowing ageing process. A total of one hundred and fifty athletes (n=150) mainly undergraduates [(95 male representing 63% and 55 female representing 37%; 70 Christians representing 47% {40 male Christians representing 27% & 30 female Christians representing 20%} and 80 Muslims representing 53% {55 male Muslims representing 36.6% & 25 female Muslims representing 16.6%}; 10 married representing 7% {6 male married representing 4% & 4 female married representing 3%} and 140 single representing 93% {89 male single representing 59% & 51 female single representing 34%}; 100 from SouthEast representing 67% {65 male representing 43.3% & 35 female representing 23.3%} and 50 from NorthWest representing 33% {30 male representing 20% & 20 female representing 13%})] were randomly selected without replacement from four Schools [(65 from School of Agriculture & Environmental Science representing 43% {40 male representing 26.6% & 25 female representing 16.6%}, 85 from School of Education & Technology representing 57% {55 male representing 37% & 30 female representing 20%})] at four levels [(125 from level 100-200 representing 83% {80 male representing 53% & 45 female representing 30%}, 25 from level 300-400 representing 17% {15 male representing 10% & 10 female representing 7%})], 90 within the age range of (18-25) representing 60% {60 male representing 40% & 30 female representing 20%} and 60 within the age range from (26-30+) representing 40% {35 male representing 23% & 25 female representing 17%}in years. The Dependent t-test (t) was used to compare the results of the findings. The results were tested @ p < 0.05 level of significance. Analysis of results from athletes' knowledge in preventing sports injuries like: Achilles Tendinitis (AT), Runner's Knee (RK)/Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS) and Shin Splints (SS), show one third (1/3) of significance difference (t value = 4.873) when tested @ p < 0.05 with a constant value {c} of 2.571 and two third (2/3) of insignificance difference (t values =-4.949 and-1.112) when tested @ p < 0.05 with constant value {c} of 2.571 using the degree of freedom equals five (i.e. df = 5) between the 'Yes' or 'No' answers given by NUNC athletes. This can also be witnessed in the frequency distribution tables, percentages and mean values. In conclusion, the finding shows that Njala University, Njala Campus (NUNC) athletes were experienced in the knowledge of prime prevention strategy in slowing the ageing process of athletes with respect to preventing sports injury like: Runner's Knee (RK)/Patellofemoral Pain Syndrome (PFPS), but minimum or little knowledge about preventing sp...
Aim: The objective of this study was to point out abstinence knowledge in decreasing unhealthy ageing with reference to physical and mental health, with justification to evaluate athlete's abstinence knowledge from eating disorders like Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and Binge Eating Disorder (BED) as health education method in decreasing unhealthy ageing with reference to physical and mental health among athletes at Njala Campus. Method: Behavioral Health Risk Modified Survey Questionnaire (BHRMSQ) was the research instrument for the survey. The variables of the findings were proved at level of significance p<0.05 through an inferential statistical instrument called Dependent t-test (t). The researchers interviewed mainly undergraduate athletes with an average number of one hundred and fifty (n=150), of which 37% (n=55) female and 63% (n=95) male, were selected using the stratified random sampling. Also stratified were 43.2% (n=65) from the School of Agriculture-to-Environmental Science; 57% (n=85) from the School of Education-to-Technology; 83 % (n=125) from level (100-to-200); 17% (n=25) from level (300-to-400); 60% (n=90) within the age circle of (18-to-25); 40% (n=60) within the age circle of (26-to-30+) in years. Results: Analysis shows negative skewedness in all three variables as placed in tabulated values (t-scores of 0.237, 0.452 and 0.318)of 5, 7 and 9 when proved at p < 0.05. Conclusion: The findings demonstrated that majority of athletes' lack abstinence knowledge from eating disorders like Anorexia Nervosa (AN), Bulimia Nervosa (BN) and Binge Eating Disorder (BED) regarding health education method in decreasing unhealthy ageing with reference to physical and mental health among athletes at Njala Campus.
Aim: To assess the preventive strategy in reducing early and unsuccessful ageing among University Athletes using Njala Campus as a case study, with the significance to measure and evaluate the knowledge of University Athlete about knowing and monitoring of vital signs of blood pressure [BP] Conclusively therefore, the findings show that majority of the University Athletes were experienced holistically in their knowledge about preventive strategy in reducing early and unsuccessful ageing with respect to the evaluated variables. It was recommended that University Athletes be given thoroughly supervised seminars, workshops and screening prior to any intercollegiate competitions held, with special reference to knowledge of vital signs.
Aim: The objective of this study was to point out pupils' knowledge level about the contraindications of cardiovascular diseases of the heart like Dilated Cardiomyopathy (DCM), Hypertensive Heart Disease (HHD) and Pulmonary Heart Disease (PHD) as health education strategy in preventive health cased at University Secondary School, Njala. Method: The researcher interviewed mainly high school pupils with a sampled number of one hundred and twenty (n=120). 46% (n=55) female and 54% (n=65) male; 67% (n=80) Christians; 33% (n=40) Muslims; were selected using the stratified random sampling. Also stratified were58% (n=70) from the option Pure Science-to-General Science;42% (n=50) from the option Social Science-to-Applied Art; 29.2% (n=35) from SSS(One-to-Two); 70.8% (n=85) from SSS(Three-to-Four);62.8% (n=75) within the age circle of (13-to-17);37.5% (n=45) within the age circle of (18-to-25+) in years. Results: The variables of the finding were tested@ level of significance p < 0.05 through a statistical instrument of T-test. Analysis from the study objective, shows negative skewedness in all three variables as placed in tabulated values (t-scores of-0.802, 0.529 and 2.129) of 2, 4 and 6 when tested@p < 0.05. Conclusion: In summing up due to the negative skewedness in all of the variables tested, the finding has demonstrated majority view of high school pupils' low level of knowledge about the contraindications of cardiovascular diseases of the heart as health education strategy in preventive health cased at University Secondary School. The researchers recommend that health education as a teaching subject be included in the schools' curriculum to help in the teaching of preventive health to school pupils.
