O racismo enquanto categoria estruturante da sociedade marca a experiência das mulheres negras no trabalho, no seu espaço de moradia e no cuidado em saúde. Este artigo, é parte da pesquisa “Direitos sexuais e reprodutivos na perspectiva da mulher negra e moradora de Manguinhos” e objetiva caracterizar os aspectos da vida dessas mulheres a partir da sua percepção de si e do racismo no seu território e na saúde. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo que utilizou entrevista individual semi-estruturada e grupo focal como coleta de dados e análise temática dos mesmos. Como resultado tivemos a percepção do racismo na estrutura social da vida da mulher negra e moradora de favela, que reafirma a construção do lugar da negra na sociedade na intersecção de raça, gênero e classe. Sendo assim, entende-se que há invisibilidade dessa população no que tange as pesquisas e práticas em saúde e ausência do protagonismo negro nesses processos, o que torna fundamental a mudança epistemológica na saúde.
