A articulação temporomandibular é uma das estruturas mais complexas do crânio humano. Quando há alguma alteração em sua estrutura, em geral denomina-se de disfunção temporomandibular. Essa patologia é de etiologia multifatorial com grande influência de aspectos psíquicos, como ansiedade. Esse estudo visa realizar uma busca bibliográfica verificando a associação da disfunção temporomandibular como consequência da ansiedade. Para tal, realizou-se uma busca na literatura, em sites de base de dados, como Scielo, Pubmed e Google Acadêmico, apurando as informações mais relevantes que fossem convenientes ao tema do estudo. Pessoas com transtornos de ansiedade tendem a descarregar maior tensão muscular na região oral, acarretando em prejuízos como bruxismo, desgaste dentário e DTM, sendo as mulheres o gênero mais afetado. Indivíduos com disfunção temporomandibular podem sofrer de dores de cabeça constante, afetando a qualidade de vida. O profissional deve conhecer as características e peculiaridade da patologia para realizar o diagnóstico correto. O tratamento multiprofissional é o mais recomendado.
