Introdução: As queixas relacionadas ao sono são comuns entre os idosos. Aspectos emocionais, ambientais, doenças crônicas e dor podem agravar os distúrbios do sono. Objetivo: Identificar associação entre intensidade da dor crônica e qualidade subjetiva do sono de idosos da comunidade. Métodos: A amostra foi composta por idosos cadastrados em cinco Unidades de Saúde da Família do município de São Carlos (SP) que apresentavam dor crônica. Para a coleta de dados, foram utilizados os seguintes instrumentos: Questionário de Caracterização, Componente 1 do Índice de Qualidade de Sono de Pittsburg e Escala de Intensidade Numérica da Dor do EMADOR. Os idosos foram divididos em dois grupos: (a) Grupo com boa/muito boa qualidade do sono e (b) Grupo com qualidade do sono ruim/muito ruim. Foram realizadas análises estatísticas descritivas e comparativas (Teste de Mann-Whitney). Resultados: Dos 92 idosos entrevistados, 57,6% eram do sexo feminino (n=53). A média das idades foi de 69,66 anos (Q2=69, DP=6,83), de escolaridade foi de 3,02 anos (Q2=3, DP=2,84) e da renda familiar foi de R$2.375 (Q2 =2.000, DP=1.230). A maior parte da amostra era casada (n=84, 91,3%). No grupo de idosos com boa/muito boa qualidade do sono (n=62), a média da intensidade da dor relatada foi de 7,03 pontos (Q2=7,0, DP=2,63) e, no grupo com qualidade do sono ruim/muito ruim (n=22), de 8,13 pontos (Q2=8,5, DP=2,24). As análises comparativas evidenciaram diferenças significativas entre os grupos (U=701,50; p=0,05). Conclusão: Conclui-se que existe associação entre intensidade da dor crônica e qualidade subjetiva do sono em idosos da comunidade.
Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar e comparar o desempenho cognitivo de idosos com e sem Transtorno de Ansiedade Generalizada (TAG). Tratou-se de um estudo descritivo, quantitativo e de corte transversal em que foram entrevistados 233 idosos moradores da área de uma Unidade de Saúde da Família do município de São Carlos, São Paulo, divididos em dois grupos: (a) Grupo com TAG (n=44) e (b) Grupo sem TAG (n=189). Os instrumentos para coleta de dados foram: questionário sociodemográfico, Mini Exame do Estado Mental, Consortium to Estabilish a Registry for Alzheimer’s Disease, Bateria Breve de Rastreio Cognitivo, Subteste de Semelhança do CAMDEX e Teste de extensão de Dígitos (ordem direta e inversa). Os dados obtidos foram digitados em um banco no programa Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows para realização de análises estatísticas descritivas, comparativas e de covariância. Todas as etapas deste trabalho obedeceram às diretrizes éticas da pesquisa envolvendo seres humanos. Os idosos eram, em sua maioria, do sexo feminino (57,9%), casados ou com companheiros (60,9%), com média de idade de 69,95 anos, baixa escolaridade (M=3,20 anos de escolaridade) e renda (M=R$ 2125,93). O TAG foi identificado em 18,9% da amostra (n=44), estes indivíduos eram significativamente mais jovens, escolarizados e predominantemente do sexo feminino (p<0,05). Além disso, o grupo com TAG apresentava escores mais elevados nos testes cognitivos. No entanto, após ajuste por idade e escolaridade, esta diferença não se apresentou significativa (p>0,05). Portanto, conclui-se que o TAG não teve efeito sobre o desempenho cognitivo.
