C’est à travers l’étude de figures de style ainsi que des agencements énonciatifs qu’est mise en relief la façon dont le genre- gender se fait, et se défait, pour produire une « irrésolution ».
Cet ouvrage retrace le combat pour l’accès des femmes au droit de vote en Grande-Bretagne et aux États-Unis aux XIXe et XXe siècles.
