Prezentowany artykuł jest częścią pracy dotyczącej funkcji turystycznej karpackich parków narodowych. Autorka dokonuje w nim przeglądu zagospodarowania turystycznego wybranych parków i jego charakterystyki. W badanej grupie zaznacza się duże zróżnicowanie pod względem wszystkich elementów zagospodarowania turystycznego. Jest ono konsekwencją położenia obszaru, ukształtowania terenu, dostępności komunikacyjnej i wieku parku.
Jedną z najbardziej popularnych obecnie form turystyki jest turystyka kulturowa. Głównym jej motywem jest chęć poznawania i doświadczania tego, co stanowi materialny i niematerialny przejaw ludzkiej działalności, odwiedzanie i poznawanie miejsc oraz obiektów o wartości historycznej, artystycznej i kulturowej, a także uczestnictwo w imprezach o charakterze kulturalnym (KUREK 2007). Celem tej formy podróżowania są m.in. muzea, które przyciągają eksponatami, wystawami, architekturą swoich siedzib i ich otoczeniem, a coraz częściej także różnorodną działalnością, której efektem ma być pozyskanie nowego odwiedzającego. W zależności od podejmowanych przez placówki muzealne zabiegów mogą być one zatem traktowane jako walor, atrakcja czy produkt turystyczny i analizowane jako pojedyncze obiekty, grupa obiektów (np. szlak muzeów) oraz jako wspólna funkcjonalnie przestrzeń, w której instytucje te prowadzą swoją działalność (wyspy muzealne, np. Berlin).
Artykuł dotyczy funkcji turystycznej pięciu parków narodowych znajdujących się w Karpatach Zachodnich. Za podstawowy miernik tej funkcji uznany został ruch turystyczny i jego elementy - wielkość, sezonowość, cechy społeczno-demograficzne, zasięg przestrzenny, częstotliwość i motywy przyjazdów, długość pobytu. W podsumowaniu autorka podejmuje próbę określenia typów funkcjonalnych parków narodowych tworzących badaną grupę.

The authors present the history of Polish residences, the development of museums in castles, palaces and manor houses, their spatial distribution and the relations between the type of building and that of the museum collection.
