Introduction. Diabetes develops in 4% of all the pregnancies worldwide, and its prevalence ranges from 1 to 14%, and 7% are complicated and results in prenatal morbidity and mortality. The disease affects women and their babies during pregnancy, labor, and delivery. However, little is known about its prevalence, birth outcomes, and associated factors in the study setting. Method. A facility-based retrospective cross-sectional study was done on all deliveries attended from January 1, 2015, to December 31, 2017, to determine the prevalence of diabetes and birth outcome. The mothers who had complete data record were identified and consecutively reviewed. The data were entered in EpiData Version 4.2 and exported to SPSS Version 23.0 for analysis. Results. Of the 14039 women who gave birth during the study period, 2.6% of them had diabetes mellitus, and from reviewed data, 54.6% had gestational diabetes and 45.4% had pregestational diabetes. Out of the diabetic mothers, 57.8% delivered by cesarean section, 39.9% by spontaneous vaginal delivery, and 26% of the pregnancies ended up with pregnancy-induced hypertension. Regarding the fetal outcome, 17.9% were preterm delivery, 17.6% macrocosmic, 9.2% respiratory distress, 10.1% low birth weight, and 65% admitted to neonatal intensive care unit. Class I obesity and history of PIH were associated with adverse maternal outcomes at aOR = 95%CI 3.8 (1.29, 8.319) and aOR = 95%CI 2.1 (1.03, 4.399), respectively. Being a house wife and preterm deliveries were associated with adverse fetal outcomes at aOR = 95%CI 2.117 (1.315, 3.405) and aOR = 95%CI 9.763 (4.560, 20.902), respectively. Conclusion. The prevalence of diabetes mellitus delivered in the hospital was 2.6%. Class I obesity and previous history of pregnancy-induced hypertension were significantly associated with adverse maternal outcomes, whereas preterm delivery and being housewife were associated with adverse fetal outcome.

The burden of communicable diseases within developing countries is mainly influenced by poor personal hygiene practices Despite substantial evidence about the effectiveness of hand washing, especially using soap at all critical time, the practice is poor in developing countries including Ethiopia. The problem is not researched well on children who are major risk groups for diarrheal diseases, ARI and other hygiene related problems. To assess knowledge, attitude and practice of hand washing and associated factors among primary school children in Hosanna town, SNNPR, Ethiopia. Institution based cross sectional study was conducted with sample size of 246 students in Girma Bekele primary school in Hosanna town from April 15-30/2016.Data was collected using interviewer administered pre tasted structured questionnaires by trained data collectors. From students participated in this study over all 167(69.9%) students have good and 72 (30.1%) have poor knowledge. Knowledge of students in this primary school is affected by grade of student and area of residence with (AOR, 95% CI 9.099(.587-.850) and (AOR.384; 95% CI (.114-.299)) respectively. Regarding the attitude of students 142(59.4%) and 97(40.6%) have good and poor attitude respectively. Overall 172(71.97%) of students have good practice and 67 (28.03%) have poor practice toward hand washing. Majority of the study subjects has adequate knowledge and about more than half of them have positive attitude. Overall practice of HW is good but utilization of soap and HW after toilet visit is low. Maternal educational status, area of residence, age, sex and grade of student are factors that affect KAP of school children toward hand washing with soap.

Background: Preventable maternal mortality remains a huge burden more especially in sub-Saharan Africa. The involvement of male partner during pregnancy and its complication helps an expectant mother to make timely decisions to avoid delays that brings about complications that could result in morbidity or mortality. Methods: Institution based cross sectional study was conducted in 2017, at Sodo Town of Wolaita Zone among mothers who came to hospital and admitted to MCH department due to emergency obstetric referral. Data were collected using pre-tested and structured questionnaire. The collected data entered by Epi data, cleaned and analyzed by using SPSS for windows version 23.0. A descriptive analysis was done using frequency, mean, quartile and standard deviation. Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression was carried out to identify the associated factors. Level of statistical significance was declared at p value < 0.05. Finally the results of Bivariate and multivariable logistic regression analysis were presented in crude and adjusted odds ratio with 95% confidence intervals. Result: Data were obtained from 233 women, with a response rate of 100%. The prevalence of male partner's involvement in birth preparedness and complication redness for emergency referral in this study was 30.9%. After adjusting for the effect of confounding variables using multivariable logistic regression, variables like distance of health facility (AOR = 0.29, 95%CI = 0.12, 0.72), having ANC follow-up (AOR = 2.9, 95%CI = 1.52-5.51) and experience of obstetric complication (AOR = 1.79, 95%CI = 1.06-3.04) have statistically significant association with male partner's involvement in birth preparedness and complication readiness for obstetric referral. Conclusion: In general, male partner's involvement in birth preparedness and complication readiness for obstetric referral in the study area was low. Antenatal care attending and experiencing of obstetric complication were factors determining male partner's involvement in complication readiness. Health care professionals should involve male partners to attend ANC clinic at each stage and arrange special antenatal care conferences which may increase awareness and practice about complication readiness and plan.

Background Person-centered maternity care is respectful and responsive care to individual women’s preferences, needs, and values and ensuring that their values guide all clinical decisions during childbirth. It is recognized as a key dimension of the quality of maternity care that increases client satisfaction and institutional delivery. However, little research has been conducted about person-centered maternity care in Ethiopia. Objective The aim of this study was to assess the status of person-centered maternity care and associated factors among mothers who gave birth at selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa city, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, 2021. Method A facility-based cross-sectional study was conducted at selected public hospitals in Addis Ababa city. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data from post-natal mothers selected by systematic random sampling. Data were collected using face-to-face interview technique. The data was coded and entered using Epi-data version 4.6 and analyzed using SPSS version 25. Bivariate and multivariable linear regression analysis was used to identify factors associated with person-centered maternity care. The strength of association between independent and dependent variables was reported by using unstandardized β at 95% CI and p-value < 0.05 were considered statistically significant. Results In this study 384 mothers were participated with a response rate of 99.2%. The overall prevalence of person-centered maternity care was 65.8% and the percentage mean Person Centered Maternity Care (PCMC) score of the respondents was 65.8% with percentage standard deviation of 17.06. Respondents who had no ANC follow-up (β = -5.39, 95% CI: -10.52, -0.26), < 4 Antenatal Care (ANC) follow up (β = -3.99, 95% CI: -6.63, -1.36), night time delivery (β = -3.95, 95% CI: -5.91, -1.98) and complications during delivery (β = -3.18, 95% CI: -6.01, -0.35) were factors significantly associated with person-centered maternity care. Conclusion and Recommendations The finding of this study showed that the proportion of person-centered maternity care among mothers who gave birth in public hospitals of Addis Ababa was high as compared to previous studies. The factors affecting person-centered maternity care are manageable to interventions. Therefore, Policymakers should develop and implement guidelines about person-centered maternity care. Training should be given to health care providers on the importance of person-centered maternity care and patient and provider rights. Hospital managers should increase the number of staffs who got PCMC training, especially during nighttime to improve the provision of person-centered maternity care. Health care providers should implement person-centered maternity care for all mothers who gave birth in the health care facility.
