In order to know if present training of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery in Spain is the appropriate, we decided to process a survey that was sent to the residents of the Spanish National Health Service in 2009. The questionnaire was sent by post to the Plastic Surgery Departments where we had previously made telephonic contact with the educational tutors (153 questionnaires were sent in total). We received 53. We also inquired about the hypothetical sitting of an exam at the end of the trainee period that could award an extra diploma (independent of the official specialist one) guaranteed by the Spanish Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery (SECPRE) We report the statistical results and the conclusions we have obtained after the analysis of these data.
Conclusión de una larga búsqueda de la técnica menos mala para la resolución quirúrgica del síndrome del túnel carpiano Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a frequent pathology, estimated in 1.5% of the general population in the USA, that has a surgical solution, but not without complications (more than 10% of operated cases), and sometimes even serious (1.74% of cases in our serie). We show here the evolution over the last 15 years of our search for the best surgical technique to operate on this disease, and the failures along the way. We describe the technique generally employed nowadays, considering it not to be "the best", but simply the result of our search. We show the results of the study, which covers operations on almost 300 hands carried out between 2000 and 2005 in our Unit following a protocol established to quantify our findings.
