Waste of bangkirai wood is very abundant and is not currently utilized optimally. It is known that composites using natural fibers have many advantages such as the material produced is lighter, corrosion-resistant, the availability of abundant raw materials, low production costs and natural fibers are more environmentally friendly. Natural fiber composite is a solution to the utilization of bangkirai wood waste. For optimal mechanical properties, chemical treatment of bangkirai wood fiber waste is needed. This study was conducted to determine the effect of alkalization treatment of natural fibers of bangkirai wood (Shorea Laevifolia Endert) with polyester matrix on the mechanical properties of tensile and flexural strength. The making of composites was carried out using the hand lay up method with the size of tensile test specimens that referred to ASTM D 638 and bending test specimens which referred to ASTM D 790 and from the tensile test results morphological observations were performed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).The results of this study are the optimal tensile strength values of 58.33 MPa in fiber composites with 7% alkalization treatment. As for the optimal bending strength in bending test of 65.63 MPa in fiber composites with 5% alkalization treatment.
Kalimantan has abundant natural resources, including wood. The physical properties of wood have varying strength and flexibility and could replace concrete reinforcement steel. In this study, the mechanical properties and sound insulation of one of Kalimantan's natural fiber combined with polyester matrix were investigated. Natural fibers used were teak wood (Tectona Grandis) with sawdust and wood chips. Specimens were made using the hand lay-up method with a wood volume fraction variable of 25%, 35%, and 50%. Afterward, the bending, morphology, and sound insulation tests were carried out. In this study, it can be concluded that the higher wood volume fraction used, the higher the ability of sound insulation. Conversely, it reduces the modulus of elasticity. Besides, the form of sawdust fillers has a better ability than wood chip fillers in terms of sound insulation and the modulus of elasticity.
High Order Thinking Skills is the ability to connect, manipulate, and change the knowledge and experience that is owned critically and creatively in determining decisions to solve problems in new situations. In the 21st century or the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, the learning model continues to change as a form of adjustment to the demands of the development of science and technology. The learning model that used to be still conservative in the auspices of LOTS (Low Order Thinking Skill) with the teacher / lecturer as the center of learning switched to the HOTS (High Order Thinking Skill) model by relying on reasoning, innovation and creativity to solve problems. So, the students become the center of learning. This study aims to design the shape of the HOTS learning model in the Research Methods subject. The prototype of the learning model is developed to be five steps / stages of learning, namely: (1) identifying problems based on observations of learning activities in schools, (2) selecting problems to study, (3) gathering information about the problems to be studied, (4) developing proposals, (5)presentation of proposals. The results of the study showed that the learning process of the Research Methods subject by applying the HOTS-based learning model would lead the students to form a critical attitude, increase independence and gain a lot of experience that are useful to compile scientific works including the completion of thesis preparation.
Setiap hari warga di perumahan Griya Sakinah Asri menghasilkan sampah, terutama sampah organik yang berasal dari aktivitas rumah tangga yaitu sampah hasil dari kegiatan dapur seperti dari memasak. Sampah sayuran, kulit buah, dan sisa makanan menjadi permasalahan bagi warga perumahan tersebut, karena jauhnya lokasi TPS (Tempat Penampungan Sementara) dari Perumahan Griya Sakinah Asri, maka warga biasanya memilih untuk membakar sampah-sampah yang mereka hasilkan tersebut, bahkan terkadang hanya sekedar dibuang disekitar lahan kosong dan ditumpuk hingga membusuk. Tujuan diadakannya kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini ialah untuk mengedukasi masyarakat mengenai pentingnya dan cara mengelola sampah rumah tangga, salah satunya dengan pemilahan dan memanfaatkan sampah organik melalui system lubang pintar (biopori). Kegitan ini dibagi menjadi dua sesi. Sesi pertama yaitu sosialiasi kepada masyarakat mengenai pentingnya memilah dan mengolah sampah rumah tangga, kemudian dilanjutkan dengan sosialisasi cara pembuatan lubang pintar (biopori). Sesi kedua yaitu pelaksanaan penanaman lubang pintar di tanah. Dalam hal ini, digunakan sampel lima rumah sebagai percontohan. Perlengkapan yang digunakan dalam pembuatan lubang pintar ini ialah pipa paralon pvc, bor tanah, dan sampah organik.
