In the present paper, a three-parameter Weibull-Lindley distribution is considered for Bayesian analysis. The estimation of a shape parameter of Weibull-Lindley distribution is obtained with the help of both the classical and Bayesian methods. Bayesian estimators are obtained by using Jeffrey's prior, uniform prior and Gamma prior under square error loss function, quadratic loss function and Precautionary loss function. Estimation by the method of Maximum likelihood is also discussed. These methods are compared by using mean square error through simulation study with varying parameter values and sample sizes. This article uses the odd Lomax-G family of distributions to study a new extension of the Kumaraswamy distribution called “odd Lomax-Kumaraswamy distribution”. In this article, the density and distribution functions of the odd Lomax-Kumaraswamy distribution are defined and studied with many other properties of the distribution such as the ordinary moments, moment generating function, characteristic function, quantile function, reliability functions, order statistics and other useful measures. The model parameters are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood. The goodness-of-fit of the proposed distribution is demonstrated using two real data sets.

This article introduces and studies a new probability distribution called “Transmuted Power Gompertz distribution”. It looks at the properties of the transmuted power Gompertz distribution. The article also estimates the four parameters of the new model using the method of maximum likelihood estimation. The article further evaluates the goodness-of-fit of the proposed distribution compared to other distributions by means of applications of the model to two real life datasets and the result show that the proposed distribution is more flexible than the fitted existing distributions.

Recently, researchers have shown much interest in developing new continuous probability distributions by adding one or two parameter(s) to the some existing baseline distributions. This act has been beneficial to the field of statistical theory especially in modeling of real life situations. Also, the exponentiated family as used in developing new distributions is an efficient method proposed and studied for defining more flexible continuous probability distributions for modeling real life data. In this study, the method of exponentiation has been used to develop a new distribution called “Exponentiated odd Lindley inverse exponential distribution”. Some properties of the proposed distribution and estimation of its unknown parameters has been done using the method of maximum likelihood estimation and its application to real life datasets. The new model has been applied to infant mortality rate and mother-to-child HIV transmission rate. The results of these two applications reveal that the proposed model is a better model compared to the other fitted existing models by some selection information criteria.
