Abstract-This article aimed to examine the relationship between learning styles and motivation for higher education in EFL students. To this end, a total of 90 EFL students from Shahrekord University were selected. The students answered two questionnaires. Students learning styles were determined by one of the questionnaire and students motivation for higher education was identified by the second questionnaire. The data analysis of the first questionnaire revealed that visual learning styles was major learning styles preferences. About the second questionnaire, mostly students have high motivation for higher education. The analysis with respect to the relationship between learning styles, and motivation for higher education revealed significant relationship. It is hoped that the finding add useful information to L2 research on learning styles, and pedagogically speaking, the findings of the study may have implication for students and EFL teachers.
Group dynamic assessment (G-DA), which is grounded in Vygotsky's sociocultural theory (SCT), explores the role of social interaction and collaboration in the development of participants' listening performance. This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of G-DA approach on listening comprehension of English as a foreign language(EFL) learners in two time intervals. To this end, twenty learners were selected from among Iranian EFL learners at an English language institute. The quantitative data analysis revealed that mediational strategies which were offered to learners within the group's Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) could enhance their listening comprehension. These findings have important implications for all classroom teachers who can benefit from different designs of integrating instruction and assessment through offering mediational strategies to assist L2 learners in the development of their listening skill.
This paper explores the application and non-application of final /n/ deletion in Ghayeni Persian. In this dialect, final /n/ deletion is a productive phonological process whose application in different domains and environments is affected by several opaque counterbleeding and counterfeeding interactions as well as bleeding. This research presents new empirical data about these aspects which could be of general theoretical interest. It is also an attempt to make a contribution to current debate in phonological opacity. In so doing, it adopts Harmonic Serialism (HS) to accommodate counterbleeding opacity. It offers an analysis to survive a pitfall challenging HS in handling counterbleeding opacity in derived words. With regard to counterfeeding opacity, it adopts Parallel Optimality Theory (POT) using Local Constraint Conjunction (LCC). It discusses how POT and HS in particular could treat opaque interactions in Ghayeni dialect. In addition, this paper argues that a candidate which undergoes the same process twice in the same step could also be included in HS’s gradualness condition.
