Aims: To evaluate upper and lower limits of the parameters used such as (age, sex, or selection of patient), and to detect the grade of understanding and acceptance of Iraqi publics for the implant surgery (education level). Materials and Methods: From a total of 300 patients seeking implant therapy in Al-Salam Hospital Implantology Center, only 45 patients were chosen to undergo implant surgery with age group 17->60 years during the period from February 2002 to February 2005. A case sheet was specially prepared for this study containing information needed to determine the suitable criteria of implantation. Frialit-2 implant system was used with its different lengths and widths (colorcoded). Maxillary and mandibular impressions, registration of maxillo-mandibular jaw relation records were done for each patient to record all findings. Data were collected and statically analyzed. Results: The higher age group patients were 17-30 years with percentage 5.33%, while non-operated patients 51-60 years showed high percentage of 29.66%. Criteria of the forty five patients (22 females and 23 males) participated in this study were statistically analyzed concerning the economical level. The operated patients showed 57.77% level I (high), 40% level II (moderate) and 2.22% level III (low). While for education level showed 53.3% level I, 42.2% level II and 4.4% level III. Conclusion: Low percentage of educational level of patients need an explanation about surgical and prosthetic parts of dental implant to elevate the education level of patients. In addition to educational level, economical level of patient plays an important role in the criteria for selection of patients.
Background: Patients with severe functional abnormalities are disappointed with their real facial appearance. Assessing the different perceptions and motivations influence in patients seeking orthognathic surgeries on their quality of life are the aims of this clinical study. This done by applying specific questioners' forms before and after treatment for demonstrates the patient's satisfaction with the result too. This can improve the success rate of orthognathic surgeries by improve patients expectations and satisfactions. Material and Method: Fifty participants are chosen to share in this retrospective study attained the Multi- Disciplinary Team Committee in Al-Salam Teaching Hospital. Patients' age groups are from 17-40 years, no specific gender included in the study. Patients agree to participate and answering the uestioners pre and post surgeries. Patients are nonsmokers with no medical disease history. Out of these inclusion criteria; patients excluded from the study. Patients with cleft lip and palate or any other syndromes that affect the dentofacial growth are also excluded. Result: Age, gender, education level and marital status as social variables intended in this study; show no statistical differences concerning the questioner's answers as reached by statistical analysis by Independent Sample t Test and One Way Anova Test. Significant differences (0.000) have been observed between preoperative and postoperative satisfaction according to Paired Sample t Test. Conclusion: Reaching optimum patients satisfaction is challenge as well as changing quality of life of our patients are provocation. In this article by using of different multiple questioners for integral perception in orthognathic surgery patients are crucial and more suitable for good understanding of patient's willing.
BackgroundMucormycosis or Zygomycosis is a rapidly progressing fatal form of fungal infection mainly affecting the immunocompromised patients. The seriousness of such infection owing to its highly angioinvasion with high morbidity and mortality rate. At times, mucormycosis is considered as a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge to the clinicians. The multidisciplinary team (MDT) cooperation is of a substantial importance. ObjectivesFor highlighting the importance of early diagnosis of Mucormycosis in immunocompromised patients; especially diabetes, we have to draw attention to the role of MDT cooperation in reducing mortality and morbidity rate. Finally emphasize the role of maxillofacial surgeon in early diagnosis and surgical treatment too. Material and MethodsTen cases were recorded as mucormycosis infection with diabetes mellitus for a period from 2005 to 2012 in the maxillofacial unit, Al-Salam Teaching Hospital. Patients presented with sever swelling in the maxillary posterior region within a different time in seeking treatment. Inclusion Criteria: o Patients diagnosed as mucormycosis. o Patients are immunocompromised ( Diabetic )Particular dealing in management of cases after confirming attacks of mucormycosis processed including urgent amphotercine B (0.8mg/kg/day for 3 weeks) use, control the blood sugar level and surgical intervention. ResultAlthough urgent treatment started, two patients died because of the late presentation (20%). ConclusionThe key of management of this rapidly progressive fulminate disease is swift commencement of multidisciplinary treatments and early diagnosis.
Highlights : Emergency department need essentisl careful assessment as it deal with acute, urgent health situations so should have high skilled well trained staff. Aims : Study involves assessing the emergency nurse's knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding the practical obstacles that impede nurses from working in the Emergency Departement and taking necessary measures to resolve them. Material and Method :The current study was a cross-sectional study conducted upon (400) nurses. Questionnaire form to assess nurses' knowledge, attitude, and practice in Mosul's teaching hospitals / Iraq related to working in the Emergency Departement. The acceptability score was established at 61.2 mark / 85%; less than this limit was considered unsatisfied as degree 85% (61.2 marks) was considered as acceptable. The data were surveyed applying the (SPSS version 25) descriptive and inferential statistics. Result : The study showed that there were statistically significant differences in the level of knowledge. The mean ± S.D of the knowledge was (33.15 ± 11) . The mean of practice was (23±9). The majority of nurses was in the accepted level 196 (49%) and statistically highly significant P-value was 0.01. Attitude answering questions show high agreement on questions (Number of the good training staff is essential in the emergency department? , and Handwashing is necessary before preparation and administration? ) with answers percentage are [ 96.25% and 93.75% respectively]. The difference between nurses was highly significant p-value was 0.001. Conclusion :This study concluded that the awareness or knowledge of nurses is satisfactory with the level of attitude and practice with respect to Emergency Department
Objective: Highlighting one of advanced surgeries in dental imlantology. The clinical outcome of post-surgical complications. Compare the success rate difference between direct sinus lift and cases were lifting not need. Methods: This retrospective study organized in Al-Salam Teaching Hospital since 2007 till 2010. Seventy seven patients were underwent direct sinus lift surgery as a site preparation for dental implant with superline dental implant system. From the total 1872 we choose 75 patients were they don't need sinus lifting. Cases divided into 2 groups were group A are the cases were dental implant performed without sinus augmentation or lift (No SA.), group B are the cases were dental implant performed with sinus augmentation lift (DSA.). Results: Perforation was the most serious complications which need to be avoided in DSL cases. Its need special skill, gentle alert works. Accurate management of the complications can give good result without affecting success rate. Conclusion: Careful analysis via imaging, precise surgical techniques and an understanding of the anatomy of the surgical area are essential in preventing complications. One should be aware of the possible complications related to implant placement so that the patient can be properly informed.
