La estimulación de pozos de petróleo es una necesidad debido a la disminución de la producción desde el yacimiento, lo que reduce la rentabilidad de los procesos productivos. Una de las causas son los daños a la formación ocasionados por los asfaltenos, los cuales pueden ser de diferentes tipos como el bloqueo por emulsión, los cambios de mojabilidad o la obstrucción de las gargantas de poros en el yacimiento. Por tal motivo, es importante comprender sus causas, al igual que entender el comportamiento de moléculas que convencionalmente son usadas para prevenir, mitigar y revertir este tipo de daños. En el presente artículo se revisan publicaciones sobre los asfaltenos, algunos problemas que ocasionan en las formaciones o pozos productores de crudos, además se presentan polímeros utilizados como dispersantes de asfaltenos y su interacción con los mismos. Y por último se exponen dos tipos de polímeros muy usados como dispersantes e inhibidores de la precipitación de asfaltenos, sintetizados a partir de una fuente natural u otro proveniente de la industria petroquímica.
