Das letztere ist ein schon krystallisirender Korper, der von B e r t h e 1 o t synthetisch durch Einwirkung von Aethylen oder Acetylen auf Naphtalin bei Rothgluth dargestellt wurde ; es findet sich auch im Steinkohlentheer. Den Verfassern ist es gelungen, das Aethylnaphtalin in Acenaphten zu verwandeln, und zwar niittelst derselben Methoden, durch welche B ert h e l o t eine analoge Reaction, die Ueberfuhrung von Aethylbenzol in Styrol, bewirkte.Aethylnaphtalin erleidet keine merkliche Veranderung, wenn man es durch eine zur dunklen Rothgluth erhitzte Glasrohre treibt ; leitet man es dagegen durch ein hellroth gliihendes Porcellanrohr, so wird es vollstandig oder fast vollstandig zersetzt; es bildet sich vie1 Naphtalin, wie zu erwarten war und eine bernerkliche Menge yon Acenaphten. Letzteres wurde durch wiederholte fractionirte Destillation abgeschieden, schliefslich durch langsanie Sublimation in glanzeriden schief auf die Gefafswand aufgewachsenen Nadeln vollkommen rein erhalten und an seinen Haupteigenschaften, namentlich an der ") Compt. rend. 24, 1463.
