Erosões e úlceras representam quebras da integridade cutânea, sejam secundárias a injúria externa ou como expressão de processo patológico interno. Virtualmente, toda superfície corporal cutâneo-mucosa está sob risco teórico de envolvimento, logo, estando a vulva inclusa. Há várias etiologias que cursam o acometimento vulvar e, frequentemente, sua distinção mostra-se complexa. Em termos de frequência, majoritariamente temos as infecções de transmissão sexual, mas os diagnósticos diferenciais devem sempre ser aventados, principalmente quando há falha na terapia empírica ou diante de determinados subgrupos populacionais. Constata-se escassez de trabalhos orientando a investigação de úlceras não associadas a Infecções Sexualmente Transmissíveis (IST's). Assim, propostas de sistematização da classificação das etiologias alternativas propiciariam a compreensão do tema, justificando-se sua relevância.
