Acessibilidade tem sido um tema bastante discutido nos últimos anos e em diversas cidades do país, e as calçadas acessíveis são fundamentais para garantir o direito dos cidadãos em transitar pelas vias públicas. Ainda que existam normas e legislações pertinentes ao assunto, muitas vezes estas não são cumpridas, tornando-se difícil para as pessoas com deficiência ou com mobilidade reduzida utilizar os espaços públicos. Neste contexto, o presente trabalho teve por objetivo analisar as condições de acessibilidade das calçadas na Avenida João Pinheiro em Itabira-MG, assim como sugerir melhorias e apresentar relatório sintético à prefeitura com a apresentação dos resultados. A metodologia compreende duas coletas de dados, sendo que a primeira consistiu em entrevistas sobre as condições das calçadas com pedestres que transitavam pela avenida. Em segundo lugar, realizou-se vistoria técnica, baseada nas normas ABNT NBR 9050/2020 e ABNT NBR 16537/2016, nas calçadas esquerda, direita e central, em um trecho de aproximadamente 630 m. Para a vistoria técnica realizou-se medições das calçadas (com trenas e inclinômetros) e registro fotográfico. Como resultados obtidos, os pedestres consideraram as calçadas regulares (49,1%) ou ruins (23,8%); relataram diversos obstáculos, tais como buracos, desníveis, mau estado de conservação e comércio de produtos nos passeios. Alguns deles relataram que a falta de acessibilidade é um problema no calçamento da avenida; e 43% que o tamanho das calçadas é inadequado. Dentre as principais melhorias sugeridas pelos usuários destaca-se a reforma do calçamento, aumento da largura, incremento da acessibilidade, além da realocação de comerciantes ambulantes e barraquinhas para um local adequado. Concluiu-se que este trabalho contribui para a população do município de Itabira-MG na medida em que soluções apontadas atendem a avenida em questão, e o restante da cidade - sendo necessário realizar o diagnóstico; discutir o tema com a população, em especial pessoas com deficiência ou mobilidade reduzida; sugerir melhorias e direcioná-las ao poder público.
