The deformation and significant settlement of surrounding rock often occur during tunnel construction with the condition of abundant water and weak cementing sand. In order to study the construction method and stability under such soft stratum, this article takes Taoshuping tunnel as the engineering background and puts forward a new tunnel construction method—double-heading advance construction method by comparing the advantages and disadvantages of various traditional construction schemes. The numerical simulation of tunnel construction process using this method is carried out to illustrate the rationality and feasibility of the method. The conclusions are drawn by comparing the numerical simulation results with the field monitoring data analysis. The numerical simulation results show that the maximum settlement value caused by excavation construction is in the parts 5 and 6 of the upper half-section and the part 7 of the central section. The settlement values of parts 5, 6, and 7 accounted for 32.4%, 24.3%, and 18.9% of the total settlement values, respectively. So, the supporting measures for double-heading advance excavation construction of these three parts should be strengthened properly. The stress of the right hance changes greatly before and after the demolition of temporary support. The maximum positive value of stress is 23 kPa and the maximum negative value of stress is −32 kPa. Therefore, the length of temporary bracing should be strictly controlled during construction and the monitoring of the right hance area should be strengthened. Furthermore, it is necessary to strengthen the supporting measures and monitoring in the right spandrel area as the surrounding rock pressure in the right spandrel area is higher than the left spandrel area. The optimum excavation height of the upper half-section in Taoshuping tunnel is determined to be 5.4 m and the reasonable excavation distance between parts 1 and 5 is determined to be 25–30 m by parameter optimization. Finally, the variation law of numerical simulation and field monitoring results is consistent, which shows that the double-heading advance construction method has a better effect on the stability control of surrounding rock, and the rationality and feasibility of this method are validated effectively. Therefore, the double-heading advance method is suitable for tunnel construction in the sand stratum with rich water and weak cementation, and the successful implementation of this method in Taoshuping tunnel also provides a reference for subsequent tunnel construction in the sand stratum with rich water and weak cementation.

In order to investigate the mechanical behavior of shale rock under cyclic loading and unloading condition, two kinds of incremental cyclic loading tests were conducted. Based on the result of the short-term uniaxial incremental cyclic loading test, the permanent residual strain, modulus, and damage evolution were analyzed firstly. Results showed that the relationship between the residual strains and the cycle number can be expressed by an exponential function. e deformation modulus E 50 and elastic modulus E S first increased and then decreased with the peak stress under the loading condition, and both of them increased approximately linearly with the peak stress under the unloading condition. On the basis of the energy dissipation, the damage variables showed an exponential increasing with the strain at peak stress. e creep behavior of the shale rock was also analyzed. Results showed that there are obvious instantaneous strain, decay creep, and steady creep under each stress level and the specimen appears the accelerated creep stage under the 4th stress of 51.16 MPa. Based on the characteristics of the Burgers creep model, a viscoelastic-plastic creep model was proposed through viscoplastic mechanics, which agrees very well with the experimental results and can better describe the creep behavior of shale rock better than the Burgers creep model. Results can provide some mechanics reference evidence for shale gas development.

The joint force deformation of rock-concrete composite structures is different from that of simple rock specimens or concrete specimens, such as the tunnel surrounding rock-lining concrete, dam foundations, and concrete. In order to study the creep mechanical properties of rock-concrete composite structures under long-duration load, the TFD-2000 microcomputer servo triaxial creep testing machine is used to carry out step loading creep tests on rock-concrete composite specimens (hereinafter referred to as composite specimens) under different confining pressures (including the confining pressures σ3 = 0 MPa). The creep test results show that, under the same confining pressure, when axial deviatoric stress is applied step-by-step according to 10%, 20%, 30%, 40%, 50%, and so forth of the UCS (σ3 = 0 MPa) and TCS (triaxial compressive strength) of the composite specimens, the failure stress that the specimen can bear is closely related to the confining pressure. When the confining pressures are 0 MPa, 7 MPa, 15 MPa, and 22 MPa, respectively, the failure stresses that the composite specimens can bear are 60% (corresponds to 0 MPa), 50%, 30%, and 20% of the TCS under the current confining pressures, respectively. Under the same confining pressure, the initial creep rate of the composite specimen on each step shows a U-shaped change trend. Meanwhile, the instantaneous creep rate and failure creep rate of the specimen increase as the confining pressure increases. When the failure creep rate is excluded, the initial creep rate of other stepped loads at the same confining pressure level decreases step-by-step. The improved Nishihara model can better describe the whole creep process of rock-concrete composite specimens, especially in the accelerating creep step. The testing data and research results in this paper can serve as references for further research on mechanical properties of rock-concrete composite structures.
