This study examines whether information about the winners of the Sustainability Reporting Award (SRA) contributes to the usefulness of the information in financial statements. This study used a sample consisting of 110 winners of SRA (SRA firms) and 110 companies that did not receive SRA (non-SRA firms) from 2008 to 2016. The study found that earnings per share (EPS), earnings per share change (EPSC), and book value per share (BVPS) are value-relevant information. Results of comparison between SRA firms and non-SRA firms show that the positive association between EPS and stock price (P) and the positive association of EPS with stock returns (R) for SRA firms are higher than that for the non-SRA firms. In addition, findings of this study indicate that EPSC is positively associated with R when EPSC and R are measured by Indonesian rupiah (IDR) instead of by percentage, and the positive association between EPSC and R for the SRA firms is higher than that for the non-SRA firms. Thus, the results are sensitive to measures of the variables. However, this study found that value relevance of BVPS for SRA firms is lower than for non-SRA firms. Implication of this study is that information about the winners of SRA contributes to the usefulness of financial statements, especially the information of EPS and EPSC.
This study examines whether information about the winners of the Sustainability Reporting with stock price and with returns for SRA firms is higher than that for non-SRA firms. Findings of this 17 study also show that, value relevance of BVPS for non-SRA firms is higher than that for SRA firms.
We investigate the impact of being politically connected on bank performance and cost of funding. We study 89 Indonesian banks over the 2001-2008 period disentangled into politically connected banks which can be state-owned banks and private banks as well as non-politically connected banks. Controlling for bank fundamental factors and time effect, we do find that political connections improve bank performance. Moreover, our results provide evidence that politically connected banks are benefited by getting a lower cost of funding. Finally, our result reveals that political connections are less valuable for foreign banks. Keywords: Political Connections; Performance; Cost of Funding; Foreign Banks; Indonesia.
Local governments (LGs) have an important role in providing services to the community. Nevertheless, some local governments still show relatively low performance. Scores of e-government implementation and audit opinions obtained by some local governments are also relatively low. This study examines whether there are relationships between e-government, the dimensions of e-government, and audit opinion and the performance of the local government administration. There are five dimensions of the e-government i.e. policy, institutions, infrastructure, applications, and planning. The sample used in this study includes 246 local governments from 2012 to 2014. Using regression analysis, the results of this study show that e-government has a positive association with the performance of the local government administration. This is supported by the positive association of e-government's dimensions with performance. The audit opinion is also positively associated with performance as expected. These results suggest that e-government and audit opinion can be used as indicators of the performance of local government administration.
