BackgroundThe coexistence of Rosai-Dorfman disease (RDD) with Langerhans cell histiocytosis (LCH) is very rare, as to date only 17 cases have been reported in the english literature. The pathophysiology of this uncommon co-occurrence still remains enigmatic and a subject of various speculations.Case presentationWe report a case of a 30-year-old female patient who presented with a pathologic fracture of the left proximal femur. Her medical history was unremarkable, there were no fever, skin lesions, lymphadenopathy or other organomegaly at physical examination. X-ray radiograph of the fractured femur showed an isolated and ill-defined osteolytic lesion. The histopathological analysis of biopsies from this lesion were consistent with a combined RDD-LCH of the bone.ConclusionCombined RDD-LCH is a very rare phenomenon, whose pathophysiology still remains unclear and a subject of various speculations.
Background: Management of knee stiffness remains a subject of debate among orthopedic surgeons. There is no gain saying that restoration of knee function greatly improves quality of life. Posterior approach offers an excellent view of underlying causes of knee stiffness. Overall improvement in surgical approach as well as a better understanding of knee anatomy has paved way to minimally invasive surgery. Some authors suggest a posterior release as a complement to knee arthroscopy. The following study reports a significant improvement in knee function after posterior minimally invasive knee arthrolysis. The authors intend by means of the present study and relevant literature to highlight the indications, advantages and limitations of this approach. Methods: Our prospective study involving eight patients presenting knee stiffness in flexion. They are treated by modified minimally invasive Trickey approach. Data was analyzed using IBM software SPSS version 2015. Results: The latest range of motion at follow-up mean was 0.2 to 105 degrees and postoperative Lysholm-Tegner score mean was 88. Conclusion: Our study suggests a safe and effective procedure for posterior knee release and the management of knee stiffness.
HighlightsThe cubital tunnel syndrome can be caused by iatrogenic elbow valgus after radial head excision. The radial head excision is a good procedure when indicated but must be followed by radial head replacement.A neurological examination should be systematically controlled for severe trauma to the elbow.
The calcaneal tendon is the frequent site of variable tendinopathies. Abscesses at this site are exceptional. We report the case of a central abscess of the calcaneal tendon in a 37-year-old woman, chronic smoking. The diagnosis was made by imagery. Management was surgical. Samples were taken for cytobacteriological and histological studies. Appropriate antibiotic therapy was administered with complete remission without recurrence at the last follow-up of 6 months. An ultrasound control objectified a continuous tendon with filling of the loss of substance, without collection.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
