Celem publikacji jest zaprezentowanie treści Kodeksu diagnozy psychologicznej opracowanego przez zespół specjalistów 1 października 2020 roku. Dokument jest II częścią Kodeksu etycznego psychologa Polskiego Towarzystwa Psychologicznego w jego trójstopniowej strukturze obowiązującej od 2018 roku. Zespół składający się z osób reprezentujących różne obszary działalności psychologicznej opracował szczegółowe przepisy etyczne w diagnozie, które poddano konsultacji w środowisku. Uwzględniono zgłoszone uwagi i zmodyfikowano opracowane zasady. Dokument został przekazany do Zarządu Głównego Polskiego Towarzystwa Psychologicznego 27 października 2020 roku i obecnie czeka na zatwierdzenie przez Walne Zgromadzenie Delegatów Towarzystwa. Zasady etyczne w diagnozowaniu zostały ujęte w 21 artykułach. Obowiązują z Kodeksem etycznym psychologa (PTP, 2018) oraz „Standardami diagnozy psychologicznej” (PTP, 2020), tworząc razem trójstopniową strukturą kodeksu w obszarze diagnozy psychologicznej. Ma on swoje zastosowanie przede wszystkim w diagnozie o charakterze opiniodawczym. Może być też stosowany w diagnozie klinicznej w trakcie procesu terapeutycznego, jednak z uwzględnieniem specyfiki tej formy oddziaływania. Polskie Towarzystwo Psychologiczne ma trójstopniowy model regulacji etycznych w obszarze diagnozy psychologicznej, który czeka na ostateczne zatwierdzenie. Stanowi on duże wsparcie dla diagnozujących psychologów. Szczególnie dla tych, którzy wydają opinie i ekspertyzy pociągające za sobą konsekwencje prawne w obszarze ochrony zdrowia, polityki społecznej, edukacji czy w postępowaniu sądowym. Niniejszy tekst nie stanowi jeszcze oficjalnego dokumentu Polskiego Towarzystwa Psychologicznego, ale może być podstawą refleksji praktyków oraz wykładowców etyki zawodowej nad dylematami diagnozy i opiniowania psychologicznego. Może być też drogowskazem w rozwiązywaniu problemów etycznych w codziennej praktyce diagnostycznej.
