was devoted to new development works in the field of NDT and collaboration between specialists from different countries, without which breakthroughs or development of new NDT methods and facilities are not possible. At a sectional session, Mr. Farley presented a report devoted to the development of both power engineering in the nearest future and fields of application of NDT and engineering diagnostics aimed at a more efficient supplying of energy to the public. At a plenary session, the heads of the UD RAS and USTU welcomed the participants. Following that, the reports "M.N. Mikheev and Development of Magnetic Structural and Phase Analysis" and "Globalization Diagnostic Technologies" by E.S. Gorkunov and V.V. Klyuev, respectively, were presented.Simultaneously with the conference held on September 6-9, 2005, the exhibition "NDT URAL" was organized in the same building of USTU at the address ul. Mira 19, Yekaterinburg, Russia. The total floor area of the exhibition was about 5000 sq. m. More than 1000 specialists (not including students and staff of USTU) visited the exhibition. Most of the participants in the exhibition represented service firms and system integrators (complex suppliers) that provide NDT services for particular objects. The largest exhibitions were presented by the Spektr Group (Moscow), Helling (Germany), and the Fraunhofer Institute on Nondestructive Testing (Germany). Many instruments and especially stationary equipment were presented on posters and prospectuses. The exhibition of instruments and equipment clearly demonstrated the main trend in their development: "Quicker, more accurately, and more conveniently!" A smaller number of companies presented equipment for electromagnetic inspection. General-purpose ultrasonic flaw detectors were presented in abundance, as earlier. Their characteristics have not undergone any appreciable improvement. However, progress in the software and user interface of instruments is quite noticeable. A tendency toward versatility-the possibility of combining functions of several general-purpose and specialized flaw detectors in a single instrumentis a typical engineering trend. This feature has been provided to the consumer by implementation of a menu allowing selection of an instrument's function.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
