RESUMEOn a évalué au Sud Bénin et en milieu contrôlé, les aspects nutritionnels d'une part, de systèmes de cultures pures (arachides et variétés de maïs à port érigé, à port semi retombant ou particulièrement riche en protéines) et d'autre part de cultures associant l'arachide avec ces trois variétés de maïs. Les cultures ont été conduites avec une irrigation d'appoint et une fertilisation organique (10 t de matière organique/ha) et chimique (100 kg/ha d'engrais complet 10-20-20). En culture pure, les rendements en grains par ha atteignaient 1,785 t pour l'arachide et respectivement 2,89 t, 4,17 t et 4,77 t pour les trois variétés de maïs semées à la même densité. En associant l'arachide et le maïs, les rendements par ha en arachide et en maïs atteignaient respectivement 1,16 t (arachide) et 2,7 t (pour le maïs), 0,94 t et 13,5 t et enfin 0,81 t et 3,62 t. Ces productions ont également été exprimées en glucides, protéines et lipides pour déterminer le nombre de rations alimentaires par ha. Ce n'est pas le système qui fournit le plus de graines de maïs et d'arachide par ha en culture pure, mais l'association du maïs à port érigé avec l'arachide qui donne les meilleurs résultats ; 7369 rations alimentaires journalières équilibrées par ha, contre 6628 et 6022 rations pour les deux autres associations. Les cultures mono spécifiques ne fournissent que 1486 à 2429 rations par ha. L'association optimisée du maïs avec de l'arachide permet donc de nourrir davantage de personnes par ha.
