The Inkit cuspate foreland is located 2.5 km southeast df the mouth of the Bzybi River --the main source of nourishment for the beaches of Cape Pit~unda. The volumes of discharge of beach-forming alluvium (fractions larger than 0.25 mm) of this river amounts in a longterm regime to about 80,000 m~/yr [i]. Entering the coastal zone, the flow of pebbles and sand is moved by predominant westerly waves toward the Inkit cuspate foreland, but thereafter the rate of this flow substantially decreases. . Simultaneously, their second source was found --strata of Quaternary deposits and Pliocene conglomerates in the side walls of the canyon. It was established earlier by drilling that sand and pebbles identical to the beach sediments occur to a depth of 420 m in the thalweg ofthis canyon [5].
