Les auteurs rapportent les résultats d'une étude épidémiologique de la brucellose bovine faite au Mali sur un échantillon de 236 troupeaux et 1 000 sérums dont la représentativité est relative. La prévalence de l'infection des troupeaux établie par titrage immuno-enzymatique (enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay : ELISA) indirect s'élève à 53 % ± 6,4. Le taux d'infection individuelle est égal à 23,3 % ± 2,5 mais devient 22 % lorsqu'il est rapporté à l'échantillon de base constitué de 9 466 sérums. Ce taux est relativement élevé dans les élevages sédentaires en zones soudanienne et sahélienne. Quatre souches de Brucella abortus ont été isolées sur des animaux porteurs d'hygroma.
