Método: Foram avaliados 20 indivíduos, 10 hipertensos e 10 normotensos. Todos foram submetidos a 4 avaliações, sendo uma imerso em repouso até a profundidade do processo xifoide durante 20 minutos e outras 3 caminhando durante 20 minutos à intensidade de 65% da frequência cardíaca de reserva, cada uma delas em uma profundidade diferente, cicatriz umbilical, processo xifoide e ombros. Resultados: Os resultados com atividades de caminhada quando comparados com os de repouso evidenciaram que somente a imersão na água parece não causar modificações na frequência cardíaca, mas que esta aumenta durante a execução da atividade aeróbica a uma intensidade moderada dentro da água. Com relação à pressão arterial, foi possível observar que, quando o indivíduo permaneceu imerso em repouso, após sair da água, ela teve um aumento súbito. Porém, quando se associou a imersão Fisioter Mov. 2011 out/dez;24(4):729-36 Keller KD, Keller BD, Augusto IK, Bianchi PD'A, Sampedro RMF. 730com a atividade aeróbica, após a saída da água, a PA teve uma diminuição e ela se manteve, pelo menos por 20 minutos, significativamente inferior ao início da sessão, antes de imergir e começar o exercício. Essa redução foi mais evidente quando o exercício foi realizado na profundidade do processo xifoide. Conclusões: O exercício aeróbico realizado na água em temperatura neutra contribui para a diminuição da pressão arterial tanto de indivíduos hipertensos como de normotensos, tornando-se um importante aliado no controle da pressão arterial.
