It is shown that the new compound FC(0)00F is formed during the synthesis of FC(0)0F and decomposes rapidly into FC(0)F and O2. Its instability is responsible for that previously attributed to FC(0)OF reported in the literature. After an improved purification, the properties of FC(0)OF were reinvestigated and for the first time two conformers, cis and trans, were detected by 19F NMR spectroscopy. From the gas phase 19F NMR spectra at different temperatures, the barriers of internal rotation were determined to be 35.0 and 40.4 kJ mol-1 for cisand frans-FC(0)OF, respectively. The mechanisms of formation of FC(0)OF and its precursor FC(O)-OOC(0)F were investigated using isotopically enriched C180 and 18C>2 in the synthesis.

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
