BIS diagnostic thresholds for the hand and four segments of the arm, based on normative data, taking into consideration arm dominance have been developed. Segmental BIS has been shown to be highly reliable.
Segmental BIS classified as many or more cases of lymphedema than whole arm BIS thresholds without finding lymphedema where it was likely not present while also providing additional information regarding the distribution of lymphedema within the limb.
