Investigation of ligand hyperfine interaction (LHFI) of non-cubic centres of the rare earth ions i n fluorite crystals along the homologous series is of considerable interest, for information on LHFI from only one of the crystals of the series does not allow t o obtain detailed information concerning the interaction mechanism.LHFI of the tetragonal fluorine centre of Ce3+ in CaF2 (Fig. 1) has been studied using the electron-nuclear double resonance (ENDOR) method /1, 2/.Recently we have studied LHFI of this type of paramagnetic centre of Ce3+ i n SrFZ and BaF2 /3/ by the radio-frequency discrete saturation (RFDS) method projection is changed. We mean by a forbidden EPR transition such a transition at which the spin projection of one neighbouring nucleus ('or several nuclei) changes as well.
+' +'A s we know, at a usual (allowed) E P R transition only the electron spinThe nuclear spin is quantized on the field which is a sum of the external field and the field caused by the LHFI with the magnetic ion. If the LHFI and the nuclear Zeeman energy are of the s a m e order, the direction of this effective field will change considerably at the electron transition. Therefore the probability of the forbidden transition will be of the same o r d e r as that of the allowed transition.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
