Periarteriitis umbilicalis, scheint heute kaum mehr beachtet, obwohl das Vorkommen seit Jahrzehnten bekannt und in den meisten Lehrbüchern der Kiriderheilkunde verzeichnet ist. Wer heutigentags Arzt zu werden gedenkt und erst einmal daran geht, sich etwas in dem geistigen Bau umzusehen, den er zu betreten sich entschlossen, der wird vielleicht mit einiger Verwirrung feststellen, daß wesentliche Teile ja selbst viele Grundlagen dessen, was man so insgesamt Heilkunde' zu nennen pflegt, offenbar höchst fragwürdig und brüchig zu sein scheinen. Denn er hört über die Schulmedizin, ja aus ihr selbst heraus überall von Wandel, von Vorwürfen, Mahnungen, Besserungsvorschlägen, von Dringlichkeit einer Besinnung und Neuorientierung, von nötiger Rückkehr zu Paracelsus, Askulap, F-lippokrates. Wäre nicht der unentwegte Ruf Kranker nach dem Arzt, das Gebäude der Medizin würde wohl erst einmal ,, vorübergehend wegen Umbau geschlossen" werden müssen so mag ihm, dem Anfänger, scheinen.
