Delhi, the Metropolis of India * How Shall the New Indian Capital Be Built? [A little over a year ago it was announced that the seat of government of India was to be transferred from Cal cutta to the ancient capital, Delhi. The site originally proposed for the official center of the capital has been found. unsuitable, and the site selected according to the present plans is that shown by a circle in the map on page 7.{ There has been considerable discussion regarding the best site for the city, and a very original plan has been suggested by Sir Bradford Leslie, whose address before the Royal Society is here reproduced. Sir Bradford's plan is interesting in many respects, but it does not appear likely that it will be followed.-EDIToRl. IT is just twelve months ago since His Majesty the King-Emperor, from his Court at Delhi, proclaimed that city as the capital of the Indian Empire. The following observations are intended to give a brief descriptive outline of a plan for giving effect to the proclamation of His Majesty, which plan, it is submitted, combines such manifold advantages that it should receive careful detailed investigation before any considerable outlay is incurred in the adoption of any other.
