Schlüsselwörter: Pferd / Pankreas / Adenokarzinom / Hämaturie / Fieber / Onkologie Pancreas adenocarcinoma in a 19-years-old Nowegian Horse geldingA 19-year-old Norwegian horse gelding was presented to the clinic with general symptoms of fever that had not responded to treatment. Leucocytosis, lymphopenia and a monocytosis were also present. The general clinical examination gave no clues to the cause of the horse's condition. A rectal examination was carried out with masses varying in size from that of a hen's egg to the size of a child's head being palpable in the pelvic cavity. On ultrasonographic examination these masses were in part cavernous and filled with fluid. No tumor cells could be found in the peritoneal fluid. The condition of the horse deteriorated. A persistent haematuria developed, the leucocytosis became worse and the horse was inappetent. On rectal examination considerable palpatory pain was present. As a result of these findings and because of the poor prognosis, the horse was euthanized. Post-mortem examination revealed multiple nodular masses as well as a serositis and ascites in the abdominal cavity. Due to the histopathological and immunohistochemical findings the diagnosis of a scirrhoid carcinoma was made, most likely consisting of a poorly differentiated ductal (tubular) adenocarcinoma of the exocrine pancreas.
