Čaušević, tenured professor in the turkish studies section at the faculty of humanities and social sciences of the University of Zagreb, is one of the most prominent turkologists in the region and the world, and a scholar to whom the academic community is indebted for his valuable insights about turkish language and culture. he was born in Brekovica, near the Bosnian town of Bihać, in 1952. After completing his secondary education at the academic high school in Bihać, he enrolled in the Oriental Philology program (turkish, Arabic, and Persian language and literature) at the faculty of Philosophy, University of sarajevo, where he graduated in 1974. he received his master's degree from the same faculty in 1982, and then went on to complete his doctoral studies in 1986, successfully defending his dissertation on the evolution of future forms in turkic languages, titled Dijahroni i sinhroni aspekti evolucije intencionala futura u turskom jeziku [Diachronic and synchronic aspects of the evolution of the intentional future in turkish]. he engaged in advanced study at the Universities of Istanbul (1978/79) and Ankara (1986), in addition to shorter research visits to Vienna, Budapest, and sofia. In the academic years of 1992/93 and 2000/01, as a fellow of the Alexander humboldt foundation, he was a guest researcher at the University of göttingen. In 1976, he started teaching at the faculty of Philosophy, University of sarajevo, beginning his very successful career as a professor and scholar. There, he taught the Ottoman turkish and contemporary turkish languages. from 1984 to 1992, he was head of the section for turkish language and literature and head of the Department of Oriental studies, while during the academic year 1987/88, he served as dean of the Philology Division of the faculty of Philosophy. When war broke out in Bosnia and herzegovina, he was in germany for the purposes of advanced research. After the expiration of his fellowship grant from the Alexander von humboldt foundation, and upon the invitation of his Zagreb-based colleague, Ottoman historian Prof. Nenad Moačanin, he came to Croatia intending to found a university study program in turkish language and literature. Malo je struka i zanimanja čiji spomen izaziva asocijacije na točno određenu osobu. Malo je i pojedinaca koji toliko srastu sa svojim životnim pozivom da ih je nemoguće odvojeno promatrati. U hrvatskoj se riječ turkolog gotovo kao sinonim vezuje uz ime profesora Ekrema Čauševića, znanstvenika svjetskoga glasa i utemeljitelja prvog sveučilišnog studija turkologije u hrvatskoj. Otud i naslov ovoga zbornika koji mu darujemo za 70. rođendan.Zbornik sadrži dvadeset pet većinom turkoloških radova profesorovih kolega, prijatelja i suradnika. Mnogo je u njemu poveznica sa slavljenikom -posveta, zahvala i pozivanja na njegove radove -rječitih podsjetnika na utjecaj njegovih znanstvenih postignuća i dugogodišnju uspješnu suradnju s turkolozima, kroatistima, povjesničarima, lingvistima i drugim istraživačima. Prilozi autora mlađega naraštaja hrvatskih turkologa potvrda su uspjeha profesorovih nastojanja da najvrsnije studente potakne na bavljenje znanošću.tematska raznolikost ovdje okupljenih radova odražava obuhvatnost istraživačkih interesa Ekrema Čauševića. Prva cjelina, "filologija", posvećena je području u kojemu je dao najveći doprinos. Otvara je rad fikreta turana Emergence, Development and Spread of the First Person Plural Suffix -K and Its Variants in Turkic. Autor utvrđuje da je sufiks -K procesima regresivne tvorbe, pokraćivanja i gramatikalizacije proizašao iz finalnog -K participa -DUK, koji se koristio za prvo lice množine perfekta, te daje pregled njegova razvoja i širenja njegove upotrebe uglavnom u oguskim jezicima, uključujući standardni turski, azerbajdžanski i turkmenski i njihove različite dijalekte. slijedi rad henryka jankowskog, A Ziker of Polish-Lithuanian-Belarusian Tatars in Turkish and Its Polish Translation by Mustafa Szahidewicz, koji donosi kritičko izdanje turske pjesme pohvalnice poslaniku Muhamedu zvane ziker, koju su prepisivali poljsko-litavsko-bjeloruski tatari, a čije se inačice nalaze u sedam rukopisa. Autor daje i filološku analizu i evaluaciju poljskoga prijevoda pjesme.Mehmet Ölmez u radu Osmanlıcada 'kucaklamak' o ile mi u ile mi? ukazuje na nedosljednost na koju se u različitim rječnicima i tekstovima od sredine 20. stoljeća do danas nailazi u vezi s bilježenjem zaobljenog vokala u korijenskom morfemu turskoga

Predmet ovoga rada je Šahnama (Knjiga o kraljevima), glasoviti ep perzijskoga pjesnika firdusija koji pripovijeda o borbama između drevnog Irana i turana. Za razliku od ranijih istraživanja, usmjerenih uglavnom na iransku komponentu epa, u ovome se radu Šahnami pristupa iz turkološke perspektive što znači da je fokus pomaknut na turance, odnosno "turke" kako ih autor u epu povremenu naziva. Istraživanje polazi od pretpostavke da bi Šahnama s obzirom na tematiku mogla biti vrijedan narativni izvor za povijest starih turkijskih naroda, posebno njihovih odnosa s Irancima. Ispostavilo se, međutim, da je tur(an)ska komponenta epa dosad redovito bila marginalizirana pa se u radu istražuju razlozi koji su do toga doveli. Analiziraju se semantičke promjene pojma turan(ac) tijekom stoljeća i utjecaj izvanjezičnih faktora na te procese, te se ukazuje na ograničenja etnocentričnih perspektiva u dosadašnjim proučavanjima Šahname. Polazeći od teze da je svako epsko djelo odraz svoga vremena, u zadnjem se dijelu rada nastoji utvrditi kulturno-povijesna pozadina Šahname te ispitati koliko je radnja epa odraz firdusijeva vremena, a koliko ranijih razdoblja iransko-turkijske povijesti.
