Bu araştırmada 2019 yılında yayımlanan fen bilimleri ders kitaplarının ölçme ve değerlendirme araçları ya da teknikleri açısından incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Bu amaç doğrultusunda araştırmada doküman analizi yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Veri kaynağı olarak 2019 yılında yayımlanan yedi adet fen bilimleri ders kitapları (5-8. sınıf) kullanılmıştır. Araştırma verileri araştırmacı yazarlar tarafından geliştirilen “Geleneksel ve Alternatif Ölçme-Değerlendirme Teknikleri ve Araçları Kontrol Listesi” aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Elde edilen araştırma verileri temel içerik analizi ile analiz edilmiştir. Araştırma sonucunda geleneksel ölçme-değerlendirme yaklaşımlarının büyük çoğunluğunun ders kitaplarının tüm konu alanlarında kullanıldığı belirlenmiştir. Ayrıca ders kitaplarında geleneksel ölçme-değerlendirme yaklaşımlarına alternatif ölçme ve değerlendirme yaklaşımlarından daha fazla yer verildiği belirlenmiştir. Diğer taraftan alternatif ölçme ve değerlendirme yaklaşımları açısından açık uçlu soru, tanılayıcı dallanmış ağaç, yapılandırılmış grid, proje, çizim, anlam çözümleme tablosu, bulmaca gibi teknik ve araçlara yer verildiği aksine gözlem, kavram haritası, kavram ağı, poster, drama/rol oynama gibi teknik ve araçlara ise sadece bir konu alanında ya da çok sınırlı sayıda yer verildiği belirlenmiştir. Bununla birlikte tüm konu alanlarında yer verilmeyen alternatif ölçme ve değerlendirme yaklaşımlarının kelime ilişkilendirme testi, zihin haritası, portfolyo, yazılı rapor, görüşme, grup/akran değerlendirme, öz değerlendirme, kontrol listesi ve tutum ölçeği gibi teknik ve araçlar olduğu belirlenmiştir.
