The purpose of this research is to investigate the drying kinetics and determine of the suitable drying method of prina which is obtained after pressing of olives in olive oil factories and cannot be used efficiently in a certain sector. Drying experiments were performed at drying temperatures of 60 C, 70 C and 80 C at a fixed air velocity of 2 m/s using hot air dryer and with the microwave power of 90W, 360W, and 600W using microwave dryer. The prina layer thicknesses were selected as 7, 9 and 11 mm for both drying method. The minimum energy consumption values were measured as 42,0 Wh for 600 W power level and 7 mm layer thickness, as 10260 Wh for 7 mm layer thickness and 80 o C temperatures. It was found that energy consumption during hot air drying was more than that of microwave drying. As a result, the suitable dryer and thickness of layer were selected as microwave dryer and 7 mm, respectively. The results of statistical analyses showed that the most suitable model to define the drying behavior of prina samples were found as the Page model for microwave dryer and Wang & Singh model for hot air dryer. Also, penetration depth, the loss tangent value (tan ), dielectric constant of material ( ı ) and dielectric loss factor ( ıı ) of dried prina were calculated as 34.51cm, 0.1059, 75.65 and 8.01 at 2450MHz, respectively. Electromagnetic (EM) shielding has become an essential element in the modern world alongside the increased use of electronic products and telecommunication equipment. We are surrounded by electromagnetic fields that have inevitably become formidable in our lives. It is possible to absorb EM waves by adding materials. Researches have focused the addition of different additives into the cement based mixture to increase the Electromagnetic (EM) shielding. This study aims to investigate the performance of carbon nanomaterial on mechanical, electromagnetic shielding properties of composite. Hence, samples were produced using obtained cement composites. After 28 days of curing, ultrasonic pulse velocity, flexural and compressive strength, water absorption tests and electromagnetic shielding were implemented for samples. As a result of this research, it was concluded that electromagnetic shielding was formed as the percentage carbon nanotube contribution increased, and electromagnetic pollution was partially prevented.
This study examines stabilization/solidification techniques for red mud/cement systems that involve the production of construction products while minimizing contamination and recycling the red mud. In these techniques, the polluted components of red mud are fixed in a cement body via adsorption and confinement mechanisms and thus, the possible impact of these pollutants on the environment is minimized. In the first step of this study, the physical, chemical, radioactive and mineralogical properties of the material used were determined. Second, red mud was used to replace portland cement in the following proportions: 0, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, 40 and 50 % of portland cement by weight. Finally, the usability of red mud as a construction product and the environmental effects of such usage were determined.
Optimum conditions for the reusability of red mud were explored testing both dried and HCl-activated red mud as a coagulant in the treatment of dyehouse wastewater. Treated dyehouse wastewater was further reused in five dyebaths with different mixture ratios of distilled water (D) and treated wastewater (W) for dyeing fabrics at three color strengths of three reactive dyes. Sludge obtained from the optimum dosage of HCl-activated red mud was tested for its reuse potential in the production of concrete. The best color removal efficiency occurred using 1 g/L dried red mud at pH 12 and 120 mg/L HCl-activated red mud at pH 12. The best color yield was obtained with a textile dyeing treatment of D50/W50 with 2% color strength when dyehouse wastewater was treated with HCl-activated red mud. Concrete samples with an addition ratio of 2% HCl-activated red mud sludge had the slightly highest compressive strength. The reuses of HCl-activated red mud and its sludge appear to be a promising alternative to some conventional treatments of dye wastewater, dyeing, and concrete production.
This research note addresses the difficulties in acquiring interview partners within the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft-funded project ‘Neighbourhood in the tourist trap? An examination on the changing residential quality through tourist accommodation in selected Berlin residential neighbourhoods’. The research project is analysing to what extent the quality of residential areas has changed as a result of tourist accommodation through a mixed-method approach. In order to ensure a differentiated database, one aim of the project was to interview residents with different durations of residency and educational levels, and to take into account the high density of people with a migration background in Berlin. Since Berliners of Turkish origin represent the largest group of people with a migration background in Berlin, it was in the interest of the research to make this group’s views visible and voices heard. In the research note we focus on the acquisition of Turkish Berliners and reflect on the question of why establishing contacts with Turkish Berliners was especially challenging. In order to answer this question, some hypotheses on non-response conduct will be sketched from which we draw our conclusions of an alteration of acquisition within the field of New Urban Tourism in Berlin.
