19. Yüzyılda Osmanlı İmparatorluğu ile Alman İmparatorluğu arasında kurulan yakın ekonomik, siyasi ve askeri ilişkiler iki imparatorluk arasında ittifakın oluşmasına vesile olmuştur. Bununla birlikte bu alanlarda bağları güçlendirmek adına göç süreci başlamıştır. Daha çok askeri alandaki bu göç süreci, Alman İmparatorluğu'nun Osmanlı topraklarına yerleşme ve orada güçlenme düşüncesi temelinde gerçekleşmiştir. 19. yüzyılda başlayan göç ve Osmanlı topraklarına yerleşme düşüncesi, I. Dünya Savaşı'nın yenilgisiyle sona ermiştir. I. Dünya Savaşı sonunda Osmanlı İmparatorluğu yıkılana kadar her alanda birlikte hareket ettikleri söylenebilir. Bu süreç zarfında iki imparatorluk arasındaki ekonomik, siyasi ve askeri paylaşımın yanı sıra iki halk arasındaki etkileşim de yoğun bir biçimde görülmektedir. Özellikle seyahatnamelerde kaleme alınan bireysel tecrübeler, o döneme ışık tutmaktadır. Ağırlıklı olarak askeri göç olması nedeniyle o döneme ait birçok seyahatname, erkekler tarafından kaleme alınmıştır. Bu noktada Anna Grosser-Rilke, dönemin diğer seyyahlarından ayrışmaktadır. Rilke, hem bir kadın olması hem de askeri kökenli olmaması nedeniyle yazın dünyasına farklı bir bakış açısı sunmaktadır. Eşinin ölümünden sonra İstanbul'da birlikte kurmuş oldukları Agence de Constantinople haber ajansının yönetimine geçen Grosser-Rilke, Türk halkını birçok yönüyle yakından tanıma fırsatı bulmuştur. Bu çalışmada Grosser-Rilke'nin kaleme almış olduğu İstanbul'da Bir Hoş Sada -Avrupa Saraylarından Yıldız'a adlı seyahatnamesindeki Türk imgesi ortaya çıkarmaya çalışılacaktır. Bu sebeple imgebilim açısından salt oluşan imgeyi değil, o imgenin birey ve o bireyin temsil ettiği grup veya toplum arasındaki ilişkileri de ortaya çıkarmak amaçlanacaktır.
