In this paper, a comprehensive demand response model for the residential sector in the Jordanian electricity market is introduced, considering the interaction between the power generators (PGs), grid operators (GOs), and service providers (SPs). An accurate day-ahead hourly short-term load forecasting is conducted, using deep neural networks (DNNs) trained on four-year data collected from the National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) in Jordan. The customer behavior is modeled by developing a precise price elasticity matrix of demand (PEMD) based on recent research on the short-term price elasticity of Jordan’s residential and the analysis of the different types of electrical appliances and their daily operational hours according to the latest surveys. First, the DNNs are fine-tuned with a detailed feature analysis to predict the day-ahead hourly electrical demand and achieved a mean absolute percentage error (MAPE) of 1.365% and 1.411% on the validation and test datasets receptively. Then the predictions are used as input to a detailed model of the Jordanian power grid market, where a day-ahead peak-time demand response policy for the residential sector is applied to the three distribution power companies in Jordan. Based on different PEMD analyses for the Jordanian residential sector, the results suggest a reduction potential of 5.4% in peak demand accompanied by a cost reduction of USD 154,505 per day for the Jordanian power sector.

In order to reduce the load demand of buildings in Japan, this study proposes a grid-tied hybrid solar–wind–hydrogen system that is equipped with a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) system, using a fuzzy logic control (FLC) algorithm. Compared with the existing MPPTs, the proposed MPPT provides rapid power control with small oscillations. The dynamic simulation of the proposed hybrid renewable energy system (HRES) was performed in MATLAB-Simulink, and the model results were validated using an experimental setup installed in the Chikushi campus, Kyushu University, Japan. The techno-economic analysis (TEA) of the proposed system was performed to estimate the optimal configuration of the proposed HRES, subject to satisfying the required annual load in the Chikushi campus. The results revealed a potential of 2% surplus power generation from the proposed HRES, using the FLC-based MPPT system, which can guarantee a lower levelized cost of electricity (LOCE) for the HRES and significant savings of 2.17 million yen per year. The TEA results show that reducing the cost of the solar system market will lead to a reduction in LCOE of the HRES in 2030.

In this paper, a detailed analysis of the impact of a day-ahead residential demand response model on the winter season of Jordan's power sector is presented and discussed. The model used is based on a deep neural network that was trained on four years of Jordan's electrical demand data and a profit-based day-ahead demand response optimization. The day-ahead demand response model was established based on the predicted day-ahead demand and a demand response model conducted by Jordan's Grid operator (GO) being NEPCO to reduce its energy costs from the power Generator (PGs) by applying a day-ahead peak period pricing scheme on the service providers (SPs). The results of applying the DR model on the winter season showed that a potential peak reduction of 4.49% to 8.19% could be achieved as well as a cost reduction of 64,263$ to 265,411$ per day.
