This paper discusses a strategy for establishing an energy consumption baseline for the effects of defining and applying new strategies to improve the effectiveness of energy savings measures. Through this analysis, the energy baseline is adjusted to the dynamics of a typical operation, reducing uncertainty about operating data when it is not possible to determine that a given energy consumption level is typical. The strategy enables focusing efforts on the points in the operation with greatest impact on energy efficiency as a function of frequency of operation.
This study presents the evolution and economic development of the global market for absorption refrigeration systems. The article reviews trends in demand for high and lowpower absorption refrigeration systems. High growth potential was found in low-power absorption refrigeration systems in the global market. An important finding is that the most widely installed systems in the world are those of single effect and double effect, due to their cost/benefit ratio. It also reviews the relations and trends of companies that manufacture this technology.
Retail store operations face a variety of challenges and complexities. Determining the best assortment is the main problem in the retail store. This research presents a practical methodology for the analysis of products in the assortment with the goal of reducing the excess items and improve sales and profit margin of a retail store without affecting customer satisfaction. The methodology integrates 6 steps that allow to optimize products of a portfolio in categories, sub categories and segments, through Pareto analysis and clustering analysis using the BCG matrix. The methodology was applied in an independent supermarket. The results in the case of the application for nonperishable products, allowed to identify a set of different products (n = 152), of which they were prioritized in a subcategory (oils) in which 90 products were prioritized. In the example, it shows how 21 products have significant results in the variety of products. The combination of the global and local category of the product, the net profit, the inventory rotation and the participation of the growth provides a multifactorial analysis in the decision-making to supply with products a retail store seeking to increase the level of service and maximizing profits.
The competitive pressure for reduced processing time, cost and improved quality has resulted in the implementation of lean manufacturing principles in supply chain management. The purpose of this paper is to empirically identify the relationships between lean supply chain management practices during projects of implementation of Lean approach in the supply chain. Based on a survey involving 113 companies, the results were analyzed through multivariate data techniques. The results show that the relationship between practices may not always be synergistic, since there are pairs of practices that, when implemented simultaneously, tend to conflict, diluting their benefits. The research also provides tools to managers and practitioners to better understand how practices interact with one another in specific contexts.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
