:An happened to the students. The subjects of this research were the third semester of English education study program, and the sum of this subject was 36 students. This research used qualitative research. The data was collected by usin g questionnaire. The predicted research finding is the most valuable one that the students' writ ing ability can be well, if we practice in our daily act ivity like make a story. Most of the students in Indonesia should study English as a foreign language. It can be applied through spoken or written forms. English language has four importa nt skills. There are listening, speaking, reading and writing. In this chance, the researcher will discuss about writing.There are many processes involve in writing. In general, these can be classified into pre-writing, writing, and revising (Perl, 1980 pp.31, 363-369; Raimes, 1987 pp. 439-468). However, within these broad categories, the art and science of composing and producing a paragraph consist of a series of complex, recursive, and often uniquely individual steps. The students are able to make a narrative text based on their own word. It means that the students are expected to be able to use English based on the genres in their writing.The students have many problems when they learn English. Beside of the students less in learn English especially in writing. They still confuse to use the tense in narrative text. Not only they use of past tense when they are writing narrative text, but also they use of present tense. The lecturer should give explanation about formula of past tense before the lecturer asks the students to make a narrative text.In fact, the students' writing ability in developing narrative text is still far from the objectives. Most of the students get many problems when they write their text. The students are less use vocabulary in writing so that they have difficulties to express their ideas in developing narrative text. They still do not know about the part of narrative text clearly. Since writing is considered difficulties to be mastered by the students, the lecturer should always look for suitable techniques to be applied to the students, in order to make the students interested in learning writing. In this chance, the researcher wants to analyze about students' writing ability in developing narrative text of the third semester of English Education Study program in Muhammadiyah University of Metro, Academic Ye ar 2014 / 2015. The researcher used qualitative research method to do this research. The aim of this study were 1) to analyze the students’ writing ability using facebook as a media, and 2) to know the classroom situations when Facebook as a media implemented in the writing class. This study is qualitative study which is carried out at Muhammadiyah University of Metro. In collecting the data, the researcher used test, observation and interview. The research findings showed that Facebook as a Media can improve the students’ writing skill. Those improvements were: 1) the students’ used effective word or diction choice and usage word from mastery, appropriate register; 2) the students were fluent expressions, ideas clearly stated/support, and well organized. Then, related to the classroom situation, the researcher found that: 1) teaching and learning process was more effective; 2) the students did the task given by the lecturer; 3) the students needed long time in using facebook; 4) time management was not control (internet connection).
In reading comprehension has some factors that influence the skill. One of the factors is vocabulary mastery. The objective of this research is to know whether there is any correlation between vocabulary mastery and reading comprehension and the degree of correlation. The total of the participants of this research was 30 students in VII A of the seventh grade students of SMPN 7 Metro. Cluster random sampling technique was used to get the sample. A correlatinal analysis was employed to know the relationship between scores in the reading comprehension and vocabulary mastery test. Based on the research calculation by using correlation product moment, it was obtained that is 0,462, and is 0,367 in significant 5% and 0,470 in significant 1%. The average of vocabulary mastery was 61,6. The finding also indicate that the students’ achievement in the vocabulary was poor. The average score of reading comprehension was 62,4. It means that the students’ achivement in the reading comprehension was fair. Therefore, the findings provide that there was a positive correlation between vocabuary mastery and reading comprehension of the seventh grade students of SMP N 7 Metro.
Abstract:The purposes of this research are to know the correlation between students' reading motivation and writing ability in recount text, the correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing ability in recount text, the correlation between students' reading motivation and vocabulary mastery and the correlation between students' reading motivation, vocabulary mastery, and writing ability in recount text. This research is quantitative research by using correlation method. In taking the sample, the researcher used saturated sampling technique. The amount of the sample are 38 students at third semester of English Study Program in Muhammadiyah University Academic Year 2015/2016. This research instrument were test and questionnaire. The finding showed that there is correlation between students' reading motivation and writing ability in recount text namely rxy=0,534. Then, there is correlation between vocabulary mastery and writing ability in recount text namely rxy=0,583. After that, there is correlation between students' reading motivation and vocabulary mastery namely rxy=0,488. Lastly, there is correlation between students' reading motivation ,vocabulary mastery and writing ability in recount text namely rxy= 0,788.
