Orally disintegrating tablets (ODTs), also known as fast melts, quick melts, fast disintegrating and orodispersible systems, have the unique property of disintegrating in the mouth in seconds without chewing and the need of water and are thus assumed to improve patient compliance. Conventional methods like direct compression, wet granulation, moulding, spray-drying, freeze-drying and sublimation were used to prepare ODTs. New advanced technologies like Orasolv®, Durasolv®, Wowtab®, Flashtab®, Zydis®, Flashdose®, Oraquick®, Lyoc®, Advatab®, Frosta®, Quick-Disc® and Nanomelt® have been introduced by some pharmaceutical companies for the production of ODTs. The main objective of this review is to give a comprehensive insight into conventional and recent technologies used for the preparation of ODTs.

The review article aims to highlight the recent developments in various in situ gel-forming polymeric systems that are used to achieve prolonged contact time of drugs with the cornea and increase their ocular bioavailability. These phase-change polymers, which trigger the drug release in response to external stimuli, are the most investigated in controlled drug delivery. The present review summarizes in detail these various polymers, which undergo sol-gel transition due to physical (temperature) or chemical (pH, ions) stimuli when instilled in the eye. As a whole, this article provides valuable insight into current trends in the field of in situ gel-forming ocular drug delivery systems.

Formulation CF5 has achieved target of present study such as increase residence time, prolong drug release, reduction in frequency of administration, and, thus may improve the patient compliance.

Formulation CF8 was found promising, as it achieved the target of the present study.
