Background: The transmission rate of COVID -19 cases continues to occur every day, followed by the development of new variants which have serious and worrying public health problems. The dentists and dental students have a significant risk of COVID-19 transmission. Thus, as the prospective dentist, it is important for the dental students to have good knowledge about the prevention of COVID-19 infection, especially in the dental practices, which will participate in breaking the chain of COVID-19 transmission. Objective: to find out an overview of preclinical students' knowledge at the Faculty of Dentistry Trisakti University about the prevention of COVID-19 infection in dental practices. Methods: This study was a descriptive observational study with a cross-sectional design conducted on preclinical students in the 7th semester at the Faculty of Dentistry, Trisakti University. The students' knowledge was measured by filling out the questionnaire, which has been tested for its validity and reliability using the Pearson product moment correlation and Cronbach Alpha, then the questionnaires were distributed online to the students using Google Form. Results: Out of 131 respondents, it was obtained that 45.8% of respondents had a low knowledge level, 42% of respondents had moderate knowledge level, and 12.2% of respondents had high knowledge level about the prevention of COVID-19 infection in dental practices. Conclusion: This study shows that most of the students' knowledge was still inadequate in the prevention of COVID-19, especially in dental practices. Students need to be more active in obtaining information related to the prevention of COVID-19 infection, and there needs to be an emphasis on training at the preclinical level so that the students can avoid the risk of COVID-19 transmissions or maybe some other infectious disease.
