PurposeThe purpose of this study is to investigate how digital platforms capability, improvisational capability and organizational readiness directly affect innovation performance. This study also explores how organizational readiness acts as mediator.Design/methodology/approachThis empirical study is based on quantitative research design. Data were collected from 647 managers of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) working in Pakistan. Correlations and regression techniques were used for analyses. The Preacher and Hayes technique, the Sobel test and Bootstrap techniques were used to test mediation effect.FindingsThe results reveal a significant and positive relationship of digital platforms capability, improvisational capability and organizational readiness with innovation performance. Organizational readiness fully mediates the relationships between digital platforms capability and innovation performance link as well as between improvisational capability and innovation performance link.Originality/valueIn the age of digital economy the achievement of innovation performance is very important for SMEs. Businesses are shifting from traditional operational activities to digitalization. This study is imperative to offer new realm of modern technologies by exploring the role of digital platform capability, improvisational capability and organizational readiness for achieving innovation performance in digital economy.
Institutional pressures (IP) have a strong effect on organizational strategies and decision making. IP in terms of coercive, mimetic, and normative forces have a direct effect on organizations to develop environmentally friendly business strategies (EFBS) and improve environmental performance (EP). The aim of this study is to examine the effect of IP on EP. Moreover, the mediating role of EFBS in the relationship between IP and EP has also been tested. Results reveal that IP significantly and positively affect EFBS. Moreover, the relationship between EFBS and EP is also significantly positive. However, the direct relationship between IP and EP is weak. The results of the study also confirm that EFBS mediate the relationship between IP and EP. These findings suggest that managers should develop green strategies for the improvement of environmental performance. This study not only offers the empirical evidence to validate the findings of past researchers but also provides insight how IP flourish the mechanism of environmentally friendly business strategies. Furthermore, this study highlighted some interesting facts that should be meaningful options for managers to enhance the environmental performance.
Aims The purpose of this study was to explore the relationship of social networking sites (SNSs) addiction on nurses’ performance and how this relationship was mediated by task distraction and moderated by self‐management. Design This cross‐sectional study is designed to empirically test the relationship of SNSs addiction, task distraction, and self‐management with the nurses’ performance. Methods Data were collected by conducting an online survey on nurses across the world using a web‐based questionnaire developed through ‘Google Docs’ and distributed through Facebook from 13 August 2018 – 17 November 2018. The Facebook groups were searched using the selected key terms. In total, 45 groups were found to have relevance to this research; therefore, request was made to the admins of these groups to participate in this research and to post a link in their groups. Only 19 group admins responded positively by uploading a link of the research instrument on their respective group pages and 461 members of these groups participated in the research. Results Results of the data collected from 53 different countries indicated that SNSs addiction results in lowering the nurses’ performance. This relationship is further strengthened by task distraction introduced as a mediating variable. The results show that self‐management mediates the relationship between SNSs addiction and employees’ performance. Moreover, the results of the study confirm that self‐management reduces the negative impact of SNSs addiction on nurses’ performance. Conclusion Social networking sites (SNSs) addiction and task distraction reduce the nurses’ performance, whereas self‐management enhances nurses’ performance. Impact This study addresses the problem of using SNSs at the workplace and its potential effect on nurses’ performance. Results demonstrate that SNSs addiction reduces the performance which is further decreased by task distraction; however, self‐management of nurses can enhance the nurses’ performance. The research has numerous theoretical and practical implications for hospital administration, doctors, and nurses.
Purpose Social enterprises (SEs) have emerged as a tool to sustainable development. SEs create a social value along with an economic value. However, the aspect of SEs still missing from literature is the process of virtualization. The purpose of this paper is to introduce international social entrepreneurship as an emerging form of social entrepreneurship that is using information and communication technology (ICT)-enabled innovation and networking with international partners as virtual enterprise network, to create social and economic values across the borders. Design/methodology/approach In this paper, qualitative research paradigm is adopted to study the internationalization of SEs. To identify the drivers of internationalization, in-depth literature review was conducted. Articles from six databases and Google Scholar were searched to propose a comprehensive model for internationalization of SEs. Findings There is limited academic work on the use and impact of digital intervention (ICTs) on SEs and, especially, on the virtualization of SEs as there is no paper explaining virtualization of SEs. This paper proposes a model for the internationalization of SEs, named virtual social enterprise. Research limitations/implications The conceptual models and discussions on the virtualization of SEs are very limited in the extant literature. Very few articles could be found that studied the process of internationalization of SEs. Thus, the paper would have far-reaching implications for social enterprise theory and practice. Originality/value This is first study of its kind proposing a comprehensive theoretical model for internationalization of SEs. This model could be used by SEs for networking across international boundaries to control the flow of information and to market their products.
Mobile applications and websites used by individuals for creating and sharing content known as 'social media' have an impact on the lifestyle and behaviour of people around the world. Social media has a far-reaching influence on the patterns of thinking, motivations, aspirations and behaviour of individuals (Subramanian, 2017). The outcomes, thereof, are both positive (e.g. communication, sharing of information and ideas and improved civic engagement) and negative (e.g. depression, poor sleep, low performance and cyberbullying; Rook, 2015). Social media is instrumental in facilitating and sharing information not only with family, friends and social networks Abstract Aim: To investigate the effect of social networking site addiction on task distraction among nurses. Background: Most of the existing literature focuses only on positive aspects of social networking site, while negative aspects thereof have rarely been highlighted.The current study focuses on finding the impact of social networking site addiction and mental states like envy, social anxiety and rumination on task distraction among nurses.Method: Data were collected through self-administrated questionnaires from 378 nurses in Pakistan. The study used descriptive and inferential statistics including correlation and structural equation modelling techniques to test the hypothesized model. Results:The results suggest that social networking site addiction results in task distraction which is further enhanced by envy, social anxiety and rumination among nurses. Conclusion:The study contends that social networking site addiction stimulates various stressors among nurses such as envy, social anxiety and rumination that augment its negative effects on task distraction. Implications for Nursing Management:Findings of the study can be used develop strategies to control task distraction among nurses to limit its negative impact and to enhance work performance. Awareness campaigns can help nurses and other healthcare professionals to comprehend the effects of using social media at work.
