Health care for people with multiple sclerosis should include family caregivers. Gender influences the perception that caregivers and patients have of the assistance they require to maximise their quality of life. This flags up several intervention areas for the follow-up and long-term care of these patients by the healthcare system.
Este artículo discute la validez del concepto de «revolución científica» de Kuhn para explicar la construcción de nuevas teorías científicas. En concreto, critica la idea de salto o discontinuidad en el desarrollo de las teorías científicas implicada en el concepto kuhniano. Se analiza la estructura de la «revolución darwinista» con el fin de mostrar la relación que hay entre una nueva teoría científica y el saber científico previo —o en este caso, tecnológico— acumulado durante siglos. Se sostiene que el primer paso de Darwin en la construcción de su teoría de la evolución fue el descubrimiento del «principio de la selección» en los trabajos de criadores y hortelanos, y que fue el concepto de «lucha intraespecífica por la existencia (presión poblacional)» aplicado al principio de la selección lo que le permitió a Darwin construir el concepto de «selección natural».
