No dia 11 de março de 2020 a COVID-19, causada pelo novo Coronavírus (Sars-Cov-2), foi declarada pandemia pela Organização Mundial da Saúde (OMS), resultando no rigoroso distanciamento social (lockdown), conforme recomendação n° 036 (CNS-2020). Diante disto, este estudo busca identificar os efeitos do distanciamento social no desenvolvimento de crianças de 0 a 6 anos e quais implicações esses prejuízos podem trazer para o diagnóstico do Transtorno do Espectro Autista (TEA). Este estudo tem como objetivo geral identificar os efeitos do distanciamento social em crianças e quais as implicações para o diagnóstico de TEA. Diante dos estudos apresentados, destacam-se vários prejuízos causados às crianças devido ao isolamento social, decorrente da pandemia da COVID-19, sintomas estes que, se analisados de maneira errônea, podem confundir e atrapalhar o processo de diagnóstico do TEA, visto que muitos sintomas apresentados estão relacionados a alguns critérios estabelecidos para tal, como a irritabilidade, os atrasos na fala e no desenvolvimento motor, a inflexibilidade, a ansiedade, dentre outros. Contudo, destaca-se que algumas pesquisas precisam ser realizadas e algumas mudanças propostas, visando entender que o desenvolvimento das crianças que viveram o período pandêmico é diferente dos estudos desenvolvidos pré-pandemia. Destaca-se a importância da restruturação das fases do desenvolvimento pós-pandemia, considerando que muitos profissionais responsáveis pelo diagnóstico de transtornos neuropsiquiátricos como TEA, utilizam como base para este fim essas teorias ainda não adaptadas à nova realidade. Além disto, é importante que estes profissionais estejam inteiramente atentos à realidade e aos estudos atuais, visando que o desenvolvimento típico e atípico pode ter suas mudanças com o tempo e perante eventos inesperados e de repercussão mundial, como a pandemia. A avaliação do autismo é essencialmente clínica e o profissional deve utilizar de diferentes recursos para compor o seu processo de avaliação. Seu papel em um diagnóstico é crucial e pode transformar para sempre a vida da criança, visto que muitas vezes a sociedade a define pela sua própria patologia. Por fim, há que se recomendar para estudos posteriores identificarem alternativas para se reconhecer o impacto do isolamento social decorrente da pandemia da COVID-19 para o diagnóstico de TEA, o que exige maior aprofundamento.
