Chorioangioma is a benign vascular tumor of the placenta arising from primitive chorionic mesenchyme. Large (>4 cm) chorioangiomas are much rarer and are often associated with maternal and/or fetal complications. We describe the sonographic features of a large placental chorioangioma with normal outcome.

Reversible protein phosphorylation is a central signaling mechanism in eukaryotic cells. While the identification of canonical phosphorylation sites using mass-spectrometry (MS) based proteomics has become routine, annotation of non-canonical phosphorylation has remained a challenge. Here, we report a tailored pyrophosphoproteomics workflow to detect and reliably assign protein pyrophosphorylation in two human cell lines, providing the first direct evidence of endogenous protein pyrophosphorylation. Detection of protein pyrophosphorylation was reproducible, specific and consistent with previous biochemical evidence relating the installation of the modification to inositol pyrophosphates (PP-InsPs). We manually validated 148 pyrophosphosites across 71 human proteins, the most heavily pyrophosphorylated of which were the nucleolar proteins NOLC1 and TCOF1. A predictive workflow based on the MS data set was established to recognize putative pyrophosphorylation sequences, and UBF1, a nucleolar protein incompatible with the proteomics method, was biochemically shown to undergo pyrophosphorylation. When the biosynthesis of PP-InsPs was perturbed in a model cell line, proteins expressed in this background exhibited lower levels of pyrophosphorylation. Disruption of PP-InsP biosynthesis also significantly reduced rDNA transcription, potentially by lowering pyrophosphorylation on regulatory proteins NOLC1, TCOF1, and UBF1. Overall, protein pyrophosphorylation emerges as an archetype of non-canonical phosphorylation, and should be considered in future phosphoproteomic analyses.
Recourse to litigation and positive judicial interventions is one of the most effective tools to meet public health objectives. The present review envisions compiling litigation and judicial measures in Southeast Asia Region (SEAR) while assessing their role in advancing smokeless tobacco (SLT) control, and equally highlighting, how tobacco industry has used litigation to undermine tobacco control efforts in the Region. The litigation, especially from the SEAR, up to 2017, that have facilitated SLT control or have been used by the tobacco industry to challenge an SLT control policy decision were reviewed. Most of the litigation related to SLT control from the Region are on pictorial health warnings. Bhutan has imposed a complete prohibition on sale, manufacture and import of all kinds of tobacco products and the litigation there relates to the prosecution of offenders for violating the ban. Judiciary in the Region is well informed about the ill-effects of tobacco use and remains positive to tobacco control initiatives in the interest of public health. In India, several SLT-specific litigation helped in better regulation of SLT products in the country. Litigation has compelled governments for effective enforcement of the domestic tobacco control laws and the World Health Organization (WHO) Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). Parties to the WHO FCTC must now use Treaty Article 19 to strengthen their legal procedures and make the tobacco industry liable, for both criminal and civil wrongs.
The results of this study strongly indicate that ethanolic extract of Z. oenoplia has a potent hepatoprotective action against INH + RIF induced hepatic damage in rats.
Background: Adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are a major cause of morbidity and mortality in hospitals and pose great economic burden on the health care system. This study was conducted with the aim of creating awareness and developing a culture for proper communication and reporting of ADRs among health care professionals.Methods: This study is a retrospective analysis of total 60 reported ADRs from AMC at a tertiary care hospital during a period of 14 months from March 2015 to April 2016. These ADRs were analysed for the pattern and type of reactions, body systems involved, causative drugs, and severity of reaction, their outcome, management and causality assessment.Results: Patients in the age groups of 41-50 years were most commonly involved with slight male preponderance. Skin reactions like rashes and itching were the most commonly observed ADR. The most common causative drugs for ADR were antimicrobial agents; IV route was the most common route responsible. Majority of ADRs belonged to type B, were non serious and moderate in severity. Most of the patients recovered. On causality assessment scale, most of the ADRs were found to be probable with the causative drugs.Conclusions: Most of the ADRs were treatable by early and appropriate management. The major limitation was under-reporting of ADRs which can be overcome by creating awareness and enhancing the culture of ADR monitoring and reporting among health care professionals for safe use of drugs.
