The digitalization of financial services has led to the emergence of new, innovative services and providers. This paper first examines which actors are defined in the related literature as members of the Fintech ecosystem and what their roles and responsibilities are. A common element in the literature reviewed is that traditional financial institutions, startups, regulators, the investment community, and technology developers are identified as actors in Fintech ecosystems. The analysis then highlights how the large technology companies that are referred to in the literature as Big Tech (Meta (Facebook), Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet (Google), Baidu, Alibaba, and Tencent) have become active in the financial services sector. It also examines which comparative advantages have led to the possibility for Big Tech companies to become third-party and then independent providers of financial services. As a result of their previous activities (software development, marketing, social media, online retail, and content services), they have acquired both a significant global customer base and outstanding IT development capabilities. These factors have enabled them to interact with former members of the Fintech ecosystem. They have formed partnerships with traditional financial institutions, then become their competitors, and they look to Fintech startups as acquisition targets. These factors determine Big Tech companies to become part of the Fintech ecosystem as a competitive service provider. From a practical point of view, these phenomena emphasize the need for the regulatory efforts on Big Tech companies.
A nemzetközi rangsorban a harmadik legnagyobb szereplő India. A második az üzletimodell-innovációk szerepe az edtechunikornisok növekedésében: hogyan tudtak alkalmazkodni a gyorsan változó környezethez. A harmadik terület a technológiai óriásvállalatok (big techek) mint új szereplők megjelenése az edtechpiacon. Az elmúlt évek kivételes növekedési lehetőségei erőteljes fejlődési kényszerrel, a verseny erősödésével és új versenytársak megjelenésével párosultak.
Our research aimed to identify the causes for the increase in the number of unicorn start-ups by analyzing the geographical and sectoral factors in two main online databases. The United States, with a traditionally strong innovation ecosystem, is leading the way in creating successful start-ups, but China, India and some European countries are also showing considerable results. The number of unicorns, referring to privately held start-ups worth more than $1 billion, is significantly influenced by qualitative factors (ecosystem development) and the size of the economy (nominal GDP). Therefore, small economies (like Israel) can only be included in the top 10 unicorn countries if their ecosystem is especially developed. The global pandemic has accelerated the digital transformation in several sectors. Fintech, e-commerce, internet, software and AI services are areas where unicorns have been able to achieve significant value growth. Introducing the attributes of these start-ups can be an inspiration for students in economics courses and can serve as illustrative examples in the related curricula.
A technológiai óriásvállalatok hatása a pénzügy-technológiai ökoszisztémákra A kapcsolódó szakirodalom a pénzügy-technológiai (fintech) ökoszisztéma fő szereplőinek elsősorban a hagyományos pénzintézeteket, a startupokat és a szabályozó hatóságokat tekinti. * Journal of Economic Literature (JEL) kód: G21, G23, G38, M13. BevezetőA pénzügy-technológia (fintech) fogalma ma már nem csupán a hagyományos pénzügyi szolgáltatások digitalizált verzióit fedi le, hanem egyéb innovatív megoldások széles skáláját is. Ezek a szolgáltatások a pénzügy-technológiai ökoszisztéma szereplőinek szoros együttműködéséből eredeztethetők.
