The study aims to explore postgraduate research students expectations from their thesis supervisors in online postgraduate programs. Particularly it aimed to study their perceptions of the role of thesis supervisor in their postgraduate research work. The study followed survey research design. The population comprised 1118 Postgraduate (MS) students enrolled in nine programs at post-graduation level in spring 2018. Using stratified random sampling technique, a total of 150 postgraduate research students were selected from five programs (MS Computer science, M Phil Educational Leadership and Management, MS Business Administration, MS Mathematics and MS Zoology of four faculties of Virtual University of Pakistan. Data were collected through researcher made scale Expectations of Research Students (ERS) having five subscales and 28 items. Mean, Standard Deviation and ANOVA were applied for obtaining results. Findings suggested that well documented and communicated thesis supervision regulations and including face-to-face interactions with online supervision could make some improvements to the outcomes of online supervision.
The study was determined to find the factors that affect the teachers' practices in the implementation of the ECCE curriculum in public schools. The study was quantitative in nature, and a cross-sectional survey design was used. All the ECCE teachers in public schools formed the population of the study. The proportionate stratified random sampling technique was employed, and 278 teachers were selected as a sample of the study. The data were collected using the questionnaire on factors affecting teachers' practices in the implementation of the ECCE curriculum. The findings showed that there is a significant difference on the basis of experience as p (0.000) ? 0.05 and an insignificant difference on the basis of qualification and class size as p (0.000) > 0.05. The study recommended that teacher training institutes of early childhood care and education should induct the curricula that are activity-based, and schools may provide better learning conditions in ECCE centers.
The present study was aimed to investigate teachers' perceptions about problems and prospects of the Diploma of Associate Engineers (DAE) program in Punjab. All the teachers (Civil, Electrical and Mechanical) teaching to DAE students in District Punjab were the population of the study. Fifteen teachers from 8 colleges of technologies were selected randomly; therefore, 120 teachers were selected as a sample of the study. A survey questionnaire was used to collect data from the respondents. The reliability of the instrument was 0.91. Findings revealed that teachers were more focused on the curriculum developed by TEVTA authorities, physical infrastructure and teachers' methods of teaching. Moreover, teachers, according to their experience, have differences of opinions regarding administrative facilities and assessment system in TEVTA institutions. Teachers, on the basis of their experience, have differences of opinions regarding administrative facilities and a proper monitoring system. It is recommended that the curriculum should revise periodically, along with the demand of the industry.
This study discovers the effect of cooperative learning (CL) on students’ achievement and motivation toward computer science at secondary level. Nonequivalent control group design of Quasi-Experimental Research method was used. Two intact groups i.e. thirty students each, were selected as the sample of the study. Students Team Achievement Division (STAD) method of CL was applied on the experimental group while traditional method (lecture) of teaching was used for control group. Pre-test and post-test were conducted respectively by using teacher made test in computer science. Students’ Motivation toward Computer Science Learning (SMTSL) scale was adapted to explore student’s motivation toward computer science. This study significantly indicates that the posttest motivation and achievement scores of students were better than the pretest motivation and achievement scores toward computer science learning. The study promotes CL approach for computer science learning, and intervention should be given for a long time period to observe its effectiveness.
Purpose of the Study: Focusing on the importance of the research interview, the researchers planned current qualitative research to explore students’ perceptions about the role of an interview conducted during the selection of M.Phil and Ph.D. admission in one of the public sector University of Lahore, Punjab-Pakistan. Methodology: The researchers adopted qualitative research leading to interpretivism paradigm. This study adopted a phenomenology research design. The researchers selected five M.Phil and five Ph.D. scholars were selected by using purposive technique. The researchers administered a self-constructed interview protocol to collect the data from the respondents. After signing a formal consent letter from participants, the researchers recorded interviews from the respondents in voice recorders and transcribed the interviews word by word. The researchers used thematic analysis approach to analyze the data. Main Findings: The results declared that the majority of the students agreed that personality has a better effect during the interview; slight sensation of nervousness before the interview; disturbed bodily condition before interview panel; friendly, cooperative, and supportive behaviour of interview panel; comfortable environment; enriched institute with qualified foreign faculty; fully confident after the interview for admission; asking of relevant questions and they get admission in to enhance their qualification for getting good-paying job and knowledge. Applications of this study: The results of the current research are applicable in public and private sector universities of Punjab, including district Lahore in which experiential and dynamic teachers are the members of the selection panel. They were aware of students perceptions while conducting interviews and familiar with their exact situations that happened in the committee rooms, as the students/applicant are the real observe of their teachers. Novelty/Originality of this study: This is the innovative and foremost research structured in Pakistani public sector educational institutions in which the authors highlighted the actual situations that happened between the interviewer and the interviewee during M.Phil and Ph.D admission. The authors have also contributed to the existing body of knowledge. The findings of the research have opened the horizon for future researchers to explore the dimension of the interviews focusing on the quantitative and mix-method design on a large sample of the participants.
Students' perceptions of assessment, stimulates them to develop an authentic and realistic assessment approach that rewards genuine effort and in depth learning rather than measuring luck [1]. Assessment's practices are very sensitive issue to enhance the quality of teacher education. Therefore, this research was aimed to investigate and compare the prospective teachers' disposition about assessment's practices (DAP) in public universities of Lahore, Punjab. Six hundred and eighty-eight prospective teachers that were enrolled in two public universities were selected via simple random sampling technique. An adopted self-reported scale, developed by Lodhi [3] was administered for data collection. The reliability of the scale was α= 0.82. Different statistical techniques were applied to find out the variations in prospective teachers' disposition about assessment's practices on the basis of demographical variables. The findings of the study comprised that 19.3% prospective teachers had high magnitude of dispositions about assessment's practices. Moreover, it was also revealed that there was significant difference in prospective teachers' disposition about assessment's practices (DAP) in public universities of Lahore.
