Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" was agreed upon in 2015 by the global community and proposes 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) for the period between 2015 and 2030. Since the greater integration of goals was an explicit claim, there are numerous overlaps among them. One of the novelties of the SDGs is that, in order to achieve the set goals, the Agenda 2030 addresses not only the states but the businesses as well. In our study, the relationships between the SDGs were analyzed on the base of the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) indicators linked to the goals. The analysis was carried out by cluster analysis. Our results indicate that there is a strong relationship to be found among nine of the 17 SDGs. That relationship is mainly technical, which is caused by the number of aligned (genuine) GRI indicators. Though there are relationships between the SDGs as well, their strength is much weaker. According to our classification of SDGs, we suggest that the gap of business attention among SDGs is smaller than it is showed by KPMG.
Family enterprises are considered to be one of the oldest and still dominant forms of business organisations. However, their innovation activity is an emerging area of research, especially in the Central and Eastern European region. The aim of our study is to address this research gap by investigating, with the help of statistical tools, the relationship between the familiness of the firms, their innovation activity, and their export activity on representative samples of Hungarian SMEs in the years 2017, 2020, and 2022. Our results suggest that the innovation activity of exporting Hungarian SMEs is more significant than that of non-exporting SMEs. However, the relationship between familiness and innovation activity is not uniform in the three analyzed years, and the relationship between familiness and export activity is not significant. The findings of this study, that firms’ innovation and exporting activities can be mutually reinforcing, can be used by policymakers, curriculum developers in business education, and entrepreneurs. One of the main limitations of our research is that the 2020 and 2022 surveys were conducted after the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the shock of the Russian–Ukrainian war, respectively; thus, the decisions of the firms could have been influenced by the unpredictability of the external environment.
A Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM), a világ legnagyobb vállalkozáskutatása 1999 óta biztosít megbízható adatokat a felmérésben részt vevő gazdaságokra jellemző vállalkozói aktivitásról, a vállalkozási ökoszisztéma helyzetéről. A globális felmérésben, amelyben világszerte neves egyetemek vesznek részt, 2020-tól a Budapesti Gazdasági Egyetem képviseli Magyarországot. A 2016 óta az első, hazai, már a BGE Budapest LAB Vállalkozásfejlesztési Iroda irányításával zajló adatgyűjtésre 2021-ben került sor. A kutatás során a felnőtt, 18-64 éves lakosság körében 2014 fő bevonásával zajlott reprezentatív kérdőíves felmérés, továbbá 36 kiválasztott szakértő megkérdezésére került sor. Jelen riport a kutatás magyar eredményeit foglalja össze, információt biztosítva a vállalkozói atmoszféra, aktivitás és ökoszisztéma hazai helyzetéről.
Small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) play a significant role in the national economies of the EU member states. This economic activity has an inevitable environmental impact; however, environmental performance indicators are mostly measured at larger companies. Since the ecological footprint (EF) is a suitable measure of unsustainability, this paper considers it as a measure of the environmental impact of SMEs. An EF calculator for SMEs was developed that is freely available online, and it is a methodological innovation per se. Our previous research projects highlighted that the calculator must be easy-to-use and reliable; therefore, the calculator considers only the common, standardizable, and comparable elements of EF. Our results are based on validated ecological footprint data of 73 Hungarian SMEs surveyed by an online ecological footprint calculator. In order to validate and test the usefulness of the calculator, interviews were conducted with respondents, and results were also checked. The paper presents benchmark data of ecological footprint indicators of SMEs obtained from five groups of enterprises (construction, white-collar jobs, production, retail and/or wholesale trade, and transportation). Statistical results are explained with qualitative data (such as environmental protection initiatives, business models, etc.) of the SMEs surveyed. Our findings could be used as a benchmark for the assessment of environmental performance of SMEs in Central- and Eastern Europe.
szennay áron a vállalati társadalmi felelősségvállalás megközelítései és a fenntartható fejlődés A tanulmány a vállalati társadalmi felelősségvállalás különböző irányzatainak a fenntartható fejlődéshez való viszonyát elemzi, különös tekintettel a megosztott értékteremtésre és a hármas optimalizációra. Az eredmények alapján az üzleti szereplők felelősségvállalása a jelenlegi gazdasági struktúra fenntartása, a fenntarthatóság gyenge definíciója érvényesítésének irányába mutat. A megosztott értékteremtés és a hármas optimalizáció egyaránt a vállalati felelősségvállalás üzleti szempontjait, a gazdasági érdek és a fenntarthatósági célok közötti kölcsönösen előnyös kapcsolatokat helyezi előtérbe. Bár a megosztott értékteremtés vizsgált irányzatai rendre a piacgazdaság újradefiniálását hirdetik, elemzésünk alapján kevés újdonságot mutatnak, csupán a társadalmi bizalom visszaszerzését, megtartását, valamint a különböző tanácsadók, illetve vállalatok márkaépítését szolgálják. A vizsgálat következtetései a hazai és nemzetközi szakirodalom feldolgozásán alapulnak.* Journal of economic literature (Jel) kód: m14, m21, Q56. * a tanulmány az mta-bge makrogazdasági fenntarthatósági kutatócsoport mint munkahely keretében, a támogatott Kutatócsoportok irodájának támogatásával készült. a szerző a kutatócsoport tagja. a szerző köszönetét fejezi ki Losoncz Miklósnak, Málovics Györgynek, Radácsi Lászlónak, Szigeti Cecíliának, valamint az anonim lektornak a kézirat korai változatához fűzött konstruktív észrevételeikért. In urban planning practice, there has been a growing trend towards the displacement of car traffic, thereby reducing traffic congestion and air pollution, creating the foundations of a healthier, more livable urban environment. In the Hungarian cities, large-scale investments have recently been carried out or are being planned. Most of the investments focused the modernization and renovation of existing line sections, but there are also examples of new lines being built. Due to the increasing demands placed on rail transport (reduction of noise and vibration loads, as well as of life cycle costs), the use of embedded superstructures is gaining ground in Hungary as well. These superstructures are excellent from a technical point of view and have a lower environmental impact in terms of noise and vibration, but the cost savings and ecological footprint (EF) reductions vary between designs. The aim of our research is to explore how the social and economic sustainability development goals of rail transport infrastructure development can be achieved with the least environmental impact. The use of the EF indicator can also help corporate and policy makers to select and support the right construction technology.
