Este estudo tem como objetivo analisar o conhecimento do câncer bucal por parte dos acadêmicos do Centro Universitário Maurício de Nassau, unidade Graças, buscando minimizar as dificuldades no reconhecimento do câncer bucal e as lesões orais potencialmente malignas. Foi realizada uma pesquisa observacional de caráter transversal, com abordagem quantitativa, entre alunos do 4º ao 10º período do curso de odontologia. Utilizou-se um questionário na plataforma Google Forms para coleta de dados. Para análise dos dados foram obtidas distribuições absolutas e percentuais, medidas estatísticas e medidas de associação. O resultado obtido em nosso estudo, demonstra um despreparo dos acadêmicos em reconhecer práticas de auto avaliação, bem como diagnóstico e orientação eficaz ao paciente, mesmo em períodos avançados do curso de odontologia. Foi possível constatar que o nível de conhecimento dos acadêmicos de odontologia do Centro Universitário Maurício de Nassau é insuficiente. A inconsistência de alguns achados reforça a importância do investimento em medidas e condutas que contribuam com a formação e capacitação do acadêmico odontologia.
O traumatismo dentário é uma situação bastante frequente nas crianças e adolescentes. Essas lesões podem variar desde simples fraturas em esmalte até a perda definitiva do elemento dentário, possuindo predominância em indivíduos do sexo masculino, corriqueiramente na fase escolar, como consequência de quedas, brigas ou lutas, acidentes esportivos, automobilísticos, traumatismos com objetos e maus-tratos. Os traumas na dentição decídua ocorrem na idade pré-escolar, geralmente estão atreladas as características comportamentais, como a curiosidade e a inquietação que levam a criança a explorar os ambientes propiciando quedas e consequentemente a ocorrência de lesões se torna alta. Este trabalho consiste em uma revisão de literatura, no qual foi realizada uma seleção de artigos sobre a atenção odontopediátrica voltada para o traumatismo na dentição da criança. As bases de dados utilizadas para a confecção desta revisão estão encontradas nas bibliotecas eletrônicas: MedLine, Lilacs e Scielo. Como estratégia de busca, usamos as seguintes palavraschave: traumatismo dentário, odontopediatria, prevenção de acidentes. O trauma na dentição decídua possui algumas consequências para a cavidade oral, o que pode levar alteração de posição dentária na arcada, consequentemente modificando o seu alvéolo, também pode existe alteração na coloração dos dentes, que se apresentam geralmente mais escurecidos ou amarelados em destaque dos demais elementos dentais da cavidade, além de mobilidade dental, sintomatologia dolorosa devido as lesões dos ligamentos, mucosa, gengiva e até nível ósseo, promovendo sensibilidade, podendo ou não apresentar reabsorções radiculares ou ósseas a longo prazo ou anquilose, necrose e perda do elemento dental, seja no momento do trauma ou posteriormente em decorrência do nível de lesão ou fratura. Através do correto diagnóstico é possível identificar a origem do trauma, realizando o mapeamento da lesão, bem como suas implicações na saúde e na vida do paciente infantil, possibilitando um planejamento resolutivo com intuito de manter o elemento dentário na cavidade bucal quando possível, evitando assim intervenções invasivas e favorecendo a recuperação funcional e emocional do paciente. O conhecimento pleno por parte dos profissionais sobre os sinais e manejo da violência, maus- tratos e abuso contra a criança deve sempre existir, pois ao ter essa percepção de alterações em seu comportamento atrelado as características de suas possíveis lesões, é possível identificar de forma mais ágil e realizar a devida intervenção através do contato com o Conselho Tutelar.
