SUMMARY
A statistical analysis of the radiological findings in 902 barium meal examinations performed in one year at The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, South Australia, is presented. In addition to analysis by age and sex, the findings are compared with those of similar surveys conducted overseas, and the homogeneity of the radiologists performing the examinations is investigated. The outstanding finding is that the commonest condition recorded is hiatus hernia. Comments on the findings are given by a thoracic surgeon, by a radiologist and by a physician.
