Background: Orange juice and Carbonat drink contains an acid agent which can affect the surface hardness of composite resin. Changes of surface hardness of composite resin is caused by infiltration of water containing the acid agent that affect the bonding of matrix to filler composite resin. This study purpose to determine the effect of immersed orange juice and carbonat drink on surface hardness of composite resin. Method: This was experimental laboratory study with a pre and post test control group design. The samples of composite resin had 12 mm in diameters and 2 mm in thickness (n=27). Composite resin used is FiltexTM Z350 XT shades A2. Samples were divided into three groups : group A immersed with orange juice, group B immersed with carbonat drink, and group C immersed with aquadest as the negative control. Samples were immersed for 24 hours. The pre and post immertion of composite resin surface hardness were measured with Micro Vickers Hardness Tester. Results: Post immertion Vickers hardness was compared by using one way anova test. The result showed that immersed orange juice and carbonat drink significantly reduced the surface hardness of composite resin (p < 0,05). Concluision: The conclusion Immersed carbonat drink more reduced the surface hardness of composite than orange juice. It is suggested to reduce the duration direct exprossure of consumption carbonat drink.
Background: Plaque is formed by colonizing bacteria that adhere on the surface of teeth can be caused dental and oral disease. Using mouthwash can prevent plaque formation quickly and easily. Lime can be used as alternative herbal mouthwash to decrease plaque index because of antibacterial content. The purposed of this study is to determined the effectiveness of lime with concentration of 20%,40% and 60% as mouthwash in the term of plaque index decrease at teens 12-15 years old. Method: This study was an quasi experimental using post test only control group design method which is perform to 12 students who at teens 12-15 years old at Nurul Islami Secondary High School, Mijen-Semarang using until four weeks. The sample were given lime extract with many concentration every weeks. Dental plaque score was measured before and after intervention.
Background: Caries is a form of tooth decay that is often encountered in daily life. Caries development can be prevented by dental restoration treatments. One such dental restorative material is a bulk fill composite resin with a low shrinkage level. Disinfection is needed to be done before the application of composite restorative materials. The purpose of this research was to know whether there is an microleakage of bulk fill composite resin after application of cavity disinfectionmaterial such as chlorhexidine digluconate 2% and alcohol 70%.Method: This was an experimental research with post test only control group design. The sample of research were 20 premolar teeth. The samples were divided into two groups (10 teeth each group). Group I was applied chlorhexidine digluconate 2% while group II was applied 70% alcohol. Microleakage were measured by observing a methylene blue 2% penetration depth using a metallography microscope.Result: The result indicated the significant differences microleakage of bulkfill composite resin after application of cavity disinfection chlorhexidine digluconate 2% and alcohol 70% from Mann-whitney test 0,039 (<0,05).Conclusion: Microleakage of the bulk fill composite resin was greater in the 70%alcohol than in the chlorhexidine digluconate 2%.
Introduction: Fennel plant is known as a medicine plant. Fennel plant parts that have the highest content is the seed. Essential oils, flavonoids, and saponins contained in fennel seed have an influence against candida albicans growth.Purpose: This study was conducted to determine the influence of various concentrations of fennel seed extract as a denture cleanser against candida albicans growth on acrilyc plate. Methods: This research was an experimental laboratoty and study design was an experimental with post test only control group design. Total sample is 30 acrilyc plate measuring 6x1 cm. The sample were divided into 6 groups, 5 groups were soaked in various concentrations of fennel seed extract (20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, 100%) and one groups was soaked in control positive polident. Soaking was done for 5 minutes. Candida albicans were incubated for 48 hours at 37°C. The result of this study were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and LSD (Least Significance Difference). Results: Based on the one-way ANOVA test was done then obtained significance value of 0,000 (p<0,05), so it can be concluded that there are significant differences between the two sets groups of at least. Based on the LSD test was done then obtained significance value of p<0,05 in all groups which means there are significant differences between each group, except in group fennel seed extract concentration of 100% with control positive polident obtained 0,924 significance (p>0,05) which means there are no significant differences between two groups. Conclusion: The researchers' conclusion that there was the influence of various concentration of fennel seed extract as a denture cleanser against candida albicans growth on aclilyc plate. Fennel seed extract concentration of 100% has the greatest influence as a denture cleanser against candida albicans growth.
